Hi, as the question above suggests just wanted to know whether GT2's have alot of difficulty getting over speed bumps or is it just a case of taking it easy and they scrape over them?
BTW, I may ask other questions regarding GT2's hopefully should be the proud owner of one in the not to distant future.

Thanks for your assistance.

no. certinly not. 996's worse that 993's due to longer overhang.

Depends on the speed bump!!

In general on all those that I have encountered, crawling over very slowly seems to do the trick and I haven't yet had one catch the car (fingers crossed!).

Fortunately there aren't too many around where I live!

Those annoying yellow and black things in private car parks will 1 time in 20 just graze the very bottom of the front lip. Many of those found on the road are ok but very occasionally I'll get a very slight scrape as I go up.

Generally I'd say they're not too much of a problem, although coming to an unexpected stop on a clear road to negotiate them increases the danger of being rear ended.

I thought that might be the case - just take it slow and should be ok then

I've never had a problem. Steep inclines/declines need to be taken at an angle where they level out abruptly though.

A 996 GT3 RS is a lot worse - if you attack them side on its fine
I work in london and have to deal with speed humps all the time
just dont drive at them straight on

Surely the weight of the driver will alter the ride height quite a lot?

Maybe ride height on mine is lower because it is an early 996 GT2 with high miles. both the front lip spoiler and brake cooling ducts can catch it on speed bumps and ramps.

It's not that bad....much better than my Noble anyway. And if it does catch it's not the end of the world because the material is pretty flexible (unlike the Noble!) One thing you don't want to be doing though is braking into them. I try to slow right down and then accelerate over - lifts the front just a tad.

I got mine stuck in a private car park only very recently b'cos of speed humps. They had to unlock the barrier and get me out backwards.

Multi-storeys are iffy too. It took us 40mins to get my friends GT2 out of Fletcher Gate in Notts ~ you could see the whole nose cone shuddering as the black bit skidded along the floor on each level. Not funny.

I dread seeing road humps and ramps.

P.S. I've often wondered what to do when you see police sirens and everyone starts bumping their cars up the curb??? We've got no chance.

....you took the GT2 into the fletchergate car park....that is madness. The ramps are one thing but trying not to curb the wheels or scuff the nose on those stupidly tight and high curbs is nigh on impossible. I keep well clear of any multistories.

Yeah, I won't do multi-storey car parks in my GT3. I know someone who having just had his new GT3 delivered went into a multi-storey in Essex cos his wife wanted to go shopping. Ended up getting the car stuck up one of the ramps and caused a massive tailback of traffic. Eventually managed to reverse out but still got charged £10.00 for entering the car park!.

Speed humps I don't find a problem as long as you attack them at an angle rather than straight one. If you get a GT3/GT2 you will proberbly have to replace the splitter (the back plastic lip spolier) at some point but I think they're only around £90.00 to replace. Still love my car despite the ground clearance issues.

Hi

My 928 is extremely low...and I avoid speed bumps and multistory car parks at all costs..

I WISH Satnav software like TOMTOM had them as an avoidable point of interest....

All the best Brett

Don't bump your car up the curb! I talked to an advanced/police driving instructor about this and they don't actually like people panicking and throwing cars onto curbs, often not checking properly for pedestrians. What they want is a path cleared in a non panicked and predictable manner so they can go through. You don't need to kill your splitter, dent your alloys and knock the geo out! 99% of the time you can get out of the way without such actions.
