Coming home this morning in the Boxster on a dual carriageway a new shape BMW coupe pulls out behind me flashing his lights for me to pull over so naturally i tried accelerate away only to still have this BMW glued to my back bumper for about a mile stop at the traffic lights and its a 320d coupe to say i was shocked and also devastated that a diesel coupe kept up is an understatement..
Todays turbo diesels have mid range to die for, even the 2ltr ones, nothing bad about not being able to loose one, esp as his was prob a company car and thrashed the nuts of it (to 3500rpm
) to keep up, you'd loose him on twisties, but I suspect you're m/way/town driving...
I remember toying with a big a8 4.0 deisel audi thing in my 996, all a bit of fun, but when in 3 figures I struggled to keep up with, didn't matter, it was a bit of fun.

Yeah, its true they have torque figs that petrols can only dream about !
Midrange, the modern diesel engine is hard to beat, and economy to die for !
Had a blat from the lights with a mates 996 3.6 with my 535D, just for curiosity more than anything, and it left him by more than you'd think !

Did you try changing gear? No need for this sort of nonsense to happen!
I never quite get this sort of thing.
I have a humble 2.7L 987 and if I drop it down to second or third and floor it, it will lose most things, I'd also assume I'm not having to thrash the nuts off my car in order to do so.
I think with most modern cars there's little in it if you're sticking to normal road speeds but the point of a Porsche (or I guess any sports/performance car) is that if you drop it down and plant it and keep it planted it will go faster more quickly, and at some point the "normal" car will start to lose out, our 70mph NSL simply means you get to experience it less (well I do as I always think "license" before I think "fun"

First off, putting a performance engine in a girls car would be asking for all sorts of legal trouble
Second, from your profile, dont you own a 320D anyhow?

My profile says i own a Boxster and there is a pic of it.
If it was a new 320D Coupe then yes they are a bit nippy.
I've just taken delivery of the facelift 120D which uses the same engine and even with 500 miles on it, it is bloomin good fun.
Your not alone though, in the final days of owning the Z4C which is a 3.0 with 260 bhp, I looked in my mirror one evening when I was already "making progress" and I had an 07 plate Astra diesel welded to bootlid. Pulled in and let him go and he was still pulling away well into xxx mph about 100 yards from the start of a 30mph zone.
