Slight but annoying problem on 964.

Lock car with either key or remote fob (clifford) doors lock then pop back up again, usually a sign of binding mechanism or duff solenoid, unplug each side still does it, alarm sets ok, doors will lock manually from inside. Passenger door will only unlock off key though. (car is LHD)

Any ideas? Is there a central locking ecu? have tested one of the door locks microswitches, working perfectly, no reason to doubt the other will be any different, also believe they are only used for locking/unlocking with key. The power supply to one of the solenoids (not checked the other) has perm 12v supply, 2 feeds at circa 2v (switching supply?) and 2 earths.

Need to get this sorted as the car can't be locked and lives outside at the mo!

Actually slight change to the above I have narrowed the problem down (I think) to the central locking control unit, A) it is the only thing both doors have in common and B) it is apparently a known fault!

Where is it on a LHD car please?

Oliver, it is also a sign that one of the door switches isn't making properly, or the micro switches are off in the door lock barrel, I know I've has both.

right this is where i'm up to.

with help from adrian strather and rennlist:

Both microswitches on barrels work spot on, and to be honest with my problem even if faulty as long as not stuck one way no effect would be seen, they are just there to operate the central locking when the key is inserted.

Both actuators spot on.

Central locking control box working fine, opened up no dry joints, relays switching fine.

However the actuators have a microswitch in the bottom of them and apparently this causes exactly my problem and logically it seems to be the answer. Basically the central locking thinks a door is open still. This is backed up by the fact that if you keep switching it with the key after 5 or 6 attempts it stays locked, so shouts out dirty switch.

However wish I had found this out before stripping both doors and removing passenger seat to get at the box!!!!

On a side note christ those seats are heavy!!!!

The way I discovered the actuator switch problem was when I'd disassembled all my door locks to change handles, and forgot to reassemble the wiring loom in the bottom of the door, if you have the manual it may be possible to double check this by linking out the switch......but only if it looks like a series switch in the wiring diagram, I'd hate you to link it and blow a fuse or worse.

It definitely isn't the microswitch in the lock barrel, I've taken both apart and tested them they are A ok.

If I can build up the enthusiasm I'll strip the doors down again tomorrow and thry to split a central locking motor open to see if there is a microswitch in there to sense position, it has to be that and Adrian Streather seems to think so.

I could really do with a wiring diagram if you come across one Kevin, I assume you got your regulator pack?

Oliver yes thanks got the pack, just not been around home for a while.....

I'll see what I can find from a wiring diagram, the wires I mentioned are sitting in the bottom door panel, two pin connectors round shielded plug, there are the ones I was referring to in the last post. I've had most of my doors in pieces replacing the speakers and door handles, that's when I discovered my little plug issue.

www.kippersplace.homecall.co.uk/ I've put the wiring diagram for the central locking system.

Kevin.

smashing mate.

theres 2 lots of wires corresponding to central locking in the door, the white one with the 3 pin plug from the handle, and the 5 pin wire to the solenoid.

I still think my problem is in the solenoid, but really cba to strip it again today. Too many other cars to do!
