Went to watch steve today at SS, in the Porsche Open...

Steve had an awesome drive (i'm sure he'll fill in the
details) but he won his class, and came 4th overall.

Big respect, well done that man..

Well done Steve, nice driving to finish above qualifying
Look forward to race reports by yourself and others

Looks like Henry had a good time too.

What happened to Paul Mc & Peter F, pole in qualifying..I guess that is racing?

Good to see Bergmeister, James F & Zubin campaigning the 93's

There were some Lovely 993's there...

A particularly lush one was a 993 RSR in Polar Silver
with gold BBS's on, in the same garage as Steves..

I bet this is worth a bob or two...

It looked FAR too nice to race

It was Zubin's car, but unfortunately it suffered an injury and so racing off for the day. Back next time, when we hope to see him mixing it up with the 996 Cup boys. I think Paul and Peter lost a fan belt which was a shame; always good seeing a 993 show the new cars a thing or two!

As for race reports, my race was slow but enjoyable. Two races in and it seems a friendly, civilised place to spend an afternoon. I'm glad I took that ARDS test and took the 993 racing as Porsche intended it to be used.

The slightly extended race report from the back of the grid is one of another decent start; I think my road car is easier to get off the line than those with racing clutches. Made up a few places into the first corner which I then gave back to the Cup boys on the first or second straight. Oil on the track made for some entertainment and there was all manner of understeer into the slower corners. My newbie enthusiasm had me throwing it off at Luffield not once but twice. The things I do to provide entertainment to the paying punter... As for my class, Paul and Mike, whom I thought I would hold onto (what's a second or two in qualifying?), disappeared into the distance and bl***dy lapped me. The only explanation can be that I'm down on horsepower or maybe, just maybe, they are much better drivers than me. Anyway, the hour went in a flash and I scraped home 3rd in class. Mark in a 928 suffered a failure with 5 minutes to go and his very bad luck was my good luck, promoting me from 4th.

Congrats Jimmy, sounds like a very respectable performance, it must be great to finish an hours race, let alone come 3rd in class

Do you drive your car to and from the circuit on different tyres, or use a trailer?....driving to the event....competing...and driving home is what an RS is all about

Thats all well and good until something breaks. Then it is not so much fun. The last time I drove my race car to the circuit was for a test day at Oulton Park. Broke the gearbox. Waited four hours for the RAC to turn up after assuring them many times I really had only gone there to watch. One of the best drives was in my race 3.2 Carrera Super Sport, I drove to Zandvoort in Holland with the missus, did the testing, qualifying and the two races and we drove back home. Back then in 1995 it was called the Pirelli Porsche Production Championship. Great Days.

I only drove it back as I have a track day on Tuesday at Donny and don't really need support for that, so it was the practical option as I won't have time to pick it up tomorrow. A pragmatic solution only! Parr have been running the car for me and they will be getting it back shortly. I wouldn't like to count on driving it home every time. Right now I need the support, don't have much time or knowledge and Parr do a good job. Perhaps in the future I'll get the hang of things a bit more and do the trailer thing myself

Thanks Glenn. I was pleased because I havn't been to the National circuit before. My pit radio packed up and I didn't know I was in third when Nick stavely was following me in his 997cup and dicing with another 997 with 2 laps to go. I'd done a Berger and spun in the pit lane after my pit stop and lost a bit of time so I thought they were the leading cars and
let them through to give them room to race. I follwed them in close quarters till the end only to hear thet Nick was actually racing me for third. Dooh! I wont do that again!

Glad to see that Henry got a very strong finish. Good to see the 996cups making a good showing against so many faster class 1 cars

Will post more when I get time.

A great day`s racing. 60 minutes being kept honest with loads of traffic and overtaking, avoiding spinning cars and the odd spot of oil on track. Bright sunshine, no contact between other cars (just). Perfect. Even a test day on the rarely used historic grand prix circuit on the Friday. Report to follow.

Any chance somebody in either team did some video footage?

.. It'd be great if we could organise a PH forum event around one of the meets...

I was racing on the Historic circuit on Saturday in my (very old) 911, gave me a bit of a shock in qualifying when i got to vale, as i thought we were on the modern circuit!

Tell me about it. Have done 2 24 hour races there on the normal GP circuit you get into a rhythm and always brake late into the first left hander. On the historic circuit the corner is blind and then opens up nicely to the entry apex for club. By the time you can see the corner on the historic circuit it`s too late.

Abbey is totally different as well. Flat for us from club and once again almost blind (certainly the exit is). You need to be a bit brave, especially as there is a wall to your left and one just ahead and to the right.

All the same a lovely track and great to share it with a very eclectic mix of cars, most of which were quick as hell on the straights, obviously no brakes, lower corner speeds and couldn`t put the power down as early though !

Saw you out there on Saturday, sliver 911, blue stripe. I suspect a little lost in amongst the larger metal. Who the hell races a Galaxy, it`s bigger than my house !

I think I passed Henry-F on the M40 yesterday (Lapis blue 996) in his trailer and also a 968 CS which had clearly just been racing. Two cars that are both on my next car list. I need a more track ready car

A good friend of mine finished 1 place in front of me in his galaxy, I tried to get past him, but he took up the entire track!
am at something of a horsepower deficit with my 2.0 160 bhp, compared to his 7 litre 460bhp! (although mine weighs less than 1000kg, his weighs about 200,000 kilos..)

Well done Steve ,

I went to Support the race as our 2 day Porsche Speed Championship round at TY CROES ( Angelsey Wales ) was cancelled as the track is not finished

Its a bit different , their 1 hour races compared to our Sprints ( which last approx 90 seconds )
great spectacle and huge respect to all

Its good to see some people on here getting out there and racing rather than talking
