Annual service due or not?
Discussion
He lads, just wondering. My car was last serviced at opc last may 06. It has not covered 12k since. Only 6k. Oil was changed 3k ago too(after ring trip) Should i get it serviced anyway or wait till later in year? Do people really go every 12 months or on miles?? Car has OPC history all its life + MORE!!
the rule of thumb for pre-03 cars is every 12 months or 12000 miles, whichever comes sooner.
post 03 they extended to 24/24 IIRC.
It depends on the current service history, if its immaculate, its worth doing sooner rather than later to maintain this, if its gone over the time/mileage before, then it wont make as much difference.
It all depends on the buyer, some are anal, some arent, decide how you would be buying the car and work from there.

Interesting true story on service intervals.
In 1996 my pal bought a brand new Renault Laguna 2.0 sport. I liked it so I bought one too, but a 1994 model. Exactly the same car except for colour. His service intervals were every 10000, mine were every 6000. Why?
I asked the dealer who said he did not know. Eventually I called Renault UK head office and was told - quote: "We increased the intervals between servicing to lower the running costs for fleet buyers".
So make you're own mind up - how much of the servicing schedule is for the efficiency of the car and how much is for the company bank balance?

Check your service book but you might find if you've done under 9,000 miles since the last service you are only due an "annual maintenance" service - which is basically a service without the oil change. Should cost under 150 quid and counts as full service history and gets a stamp in the book. OPCs don't freely advertise it, but will do it if asked.

Dave , I'd be inclined to do the 'annual service' ... It'll get the yearly stamp in the book for a quoted menu price of £116 for pre '03 GT3's. Really you're just paying for the stamp as I believe they just change the oil for that . The disadvantage of doing this is that the OPC recommendation is that the minor service then needs to be done 12k after the previous minor/major service was completed.
Complicated? ... I think so!!
As an exercise in keeping the book fully stamped ... £116 every time!

Just looked up the service book , and it doesn't even include oil change .. It's a visual inspection.
Shite!!
So it's basically £116 for a stamp.
Suggest , doin the five finger discount on a rubber stamp when you're next stopping by the OPC for coffee

Limited Mile service (no parts replaced) £285.00
approx time 2.3 hrs
They want approx £122ph for a monkey to unscrew and rescrew some things...
Does anyone in the south east do a 6k service for sensible money or are they all taking the piss these days.

The Annual Service for a car doing less than 9k per annum is on the menu at about £130.

Out of interest, I spoke to OPC Hatfield.
6k service (Oil change, level checks) £395!...
I queried this and the woman who answers the service enquiries at Hatfield confirmed it was just oil that is replaced. The other hour they charge for is for checking the other fluid levels...
So I said, you charge close to £200 for someone to unscrew a sump plug, re-screw it, and put some new oil in?.
Yes, she said; when would you like to book it in for...
I really didn't have the energy after that.
Both conversations with both OPC's were an abject lesson in close-as-it-gets misselling and piss-poor communication with a number of 'I don't know, I'll find out. I still don't know, I'll call you back., etc...
