My GT3 Mk2 has just been serviced (24k miles)by an official Porsche garage and a leaky front shock absorber was found. It was suggested that both front shocks be replaced and I have agreed. I asked if this was covered by the Porsche extended warranty that I have and I was told it was not.
Has anybody had a similar experience with front shocks on a GT3?
Any views on whether it should be covered by extended warranty?

Are they designed to last 24k miles then begin to leak oil, in the same way brake disks are designed to wear thin in normal use until they're at a service limit?

Of course not. They've broken and the warranty should cover them.

I had an issue with warranty and GT3 shocks - they are NOT covered by warranty at all. In fact if you look closely in their warranty book you will see the heading "Suspension" but if you read further there are no suspension components listed. I was even forced to replace one at OPC rates during my 111 point check "because its a warranted item it must be good before warranty is issued"....but when I came to claim for another one.."struts aren't covered"

Shocks wouldn't be covered under the extended warranty because they are regarded as a wear item with an indeterminate life.

However, depending on how old your car is (ie 3 years old?), how the car has been used, and your relationship with your OPC, you may be able to argue that they have failed prematurely and insist on a sympathetic warranty claim, in which case they may make a contribution to the costs. But don't hold your breath.

Thanks for the input, guys. I have already tried to get some sympathy but got nowhere. They said it might have been subject to misuse! Whatever that might be on a standard road use only car.
