Just back from a spirited drive in the GT3. Whilst out on a quiet fast road I put my foot down and was making 'good progress' when I passed a plain white Vx Zafira parked in a lay-by at the side of the road.
Something caught my eye in the sun that looked like a camera inside the car.
I carried on for a few miles, the thought that i'd been caught potentially speeding was niggling away at me. So I turned round and went back. Indeed it was a camera **GULP** bye bye licence.
After parking up, I asked what he was doing. "Project Laser" - automatic number plate recognition operation by the Police. So you're not doing speed checks, I asked. No, he replied and gave me a leaflet on Project Laser!
Phhhheeeeewwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I pushed the revs up to 8000rpm this evening but still the yellow upshift triangle didn't come on.
But I can now confirm that it is working....at 8200rpm biggrin AND I managed not to red line it, so no red Zone 1 readings!
The mileage was about 925 so hopefully the engine was run in sufficiently for such revs.

What are red zone 1 readings?
Is this history picked up at service which could invalidate your warranty?

No. I'm pretty sure it just records the peak rpms achieved. I think it can distinguish between this and a 'buzzed' engine, where an errant down-change has been made.

I had the cruise control set to 78mph on a clear dual carriageway, came around the bend & Mr P was there with a laser thingy resting on his car door!

There were no other vehicles in view so he shot me once & then swiveled the camera around suddenly for another shot as I approached him.

I'm now worried having read how moving the laser whilst speed trapping can give an "over-read", I went back to see if I was to be sent to the naughty step, only to find he had gone!

So now I have that dreaded wait frown

On motorways and dual carriage ways you occasionally see marked police cars with a camera mounted on the rear pointing down at the outside lane at about number plate height. They are doing the same thing. They can also be mounted in the front and used on cars they follow and oncoming vehicles.

UK is now the most watched society in the world.frown

I wouldn't worry too much - you *should* be fine. They would be unlikely to do you at 78mph anyway, and your speedo was probably reading 3mph over. At 75mph you'd definitely be fine. Don't forget they are always going to target fast cars and they don't know how fast you're going until they've zapped you - so they probably would have 'fired at you' at 69mph aswell.

Worst case scenario = 3 points, 50 squids. Life goes on.
