Morning all

I know I'll get streams of abuse asking this... but is it possible to retro fit cruise control to a 997?

Cheers

The only people who'll give you abuse are those who don't realise what a clever gadget it is.

Can take a bit of getting used to, but brilliant once you do, and particularly handy on high performance/sporting cars.

Geneve,

After a long search I have a 997 with C/Cntrl , and I must admit, I forget it's there sometimes what with always wanting the driver involvement and so on. Is it brilliant bcse of ease of use, or fuel economy please?

I've had cruise on 911s since 1988, although I first had it retro-fitted on a 944Turbo (for £850!). IMO the Porsche Tempostat is one of the most intuitive systems. I use it mainly on m.ways but also through a lot of camera controlled areas, and I normally set it against the gps, with the acpo margin.

It means you are not constantly having to refer to the speedo to check your speed, you can concentrate on the driving. On busy roads you often have to intervene, but it's all very instinctive.

Yes it does improve economy, although the very best 'economy drivers' reckon they can beat it.

Agree, it's very handy to protect the licence. Everything else is nice to have

Rennlist running a thread that says you can,

Looking at the wiring it is just hardware you need, the system operates on the Can Bus network so no massive rewiring necessary. Stalk switches, a loom and a multifunction switch apparently - though no official retrofit kit is available - nor will ever be supposedly

i had only ever really used cruise in the states a few years back and i was always one of those people who said cruise was no good in the uk due to the congested roads...

however it is fitted to my 996tt and i've used it alot - far more then i would have imagined. it's perfect for road works or speed traps and does keep it at a constant cruising speed.

I think the word 'Cruise' might put some people off.

It's actually an electronic throttle with various clever functions and makes great sense in day to day use. Adds negligible weight so worth having.
