Get an OPC 111 point inspection, then you can add the warranty if you want.

aa/rac inspection utterly worthless IMO. far cheaper and better to get porsche to inspect it

I agree. AA/RAC inspections are worthless. You need to get the car to the local Porsche Centre for an inspection, or perhaps a reputable specialist.

That does seem good price.

The usual suggestion is to either get the 111 point OPC check done, and then take out the OPC warranty (the cost of the check can be redeemed against the warranty) or get the 111 point check done and save the warranty money and cross your fingers.

If it were me (always easy to say when it's actually someone else's money) if the car is cheaper than you would expect I'd be more inclined to have the OPC warranty.

I agree with the above, and i do a lot of work on 996/boxster myself, checking it over is not a problem but i would'nt let the rac/aa do it,get a porsche warranty on it to.

would most sellers agree to having his car taken away before he has got his money, would you still have the 111point inspection done if the car was 3grand more

On a car such as a Porsche I'd want a specialist opinion tbh as the selling price is no guarantee of anything other than external condition and having the right paperwork to suggest it's in good order.

Granted the inspection is no guarantee that something won't fail the day after you buy it, but it's a pretty good indication that the basics are right in my opinion.

If I were selling a car and expecting someone to hand over £20k in cash for it I think I'd consider getting an OPC inspection carried out as I would say it's a pretty good selling point precisely because people are, like yourself, nervous at handing over that sort of money without some assurance of the cars condition.

Sorry for being a bit glib with you earlier Alfa ... Come to think of it , I used caps when I first posted here ...

As regards the check , there's quite a possibility that this is the AA guys first time inspecting a Porsche , you may find him scratching his head as he peers under the bonnet !!
On the other hand , Porsche centres will know exactly what to look for....

Seeing as the car seems good value , and you probably don't want to let it get
away from you just becausethe seller won't (or may not) bring it in for a 111 check , the other option may be for you to find someone who specialises in checking Porsches for a living ...
Some of the posters here may know who would be local to you , or google 'Peter Morgan' , he's one of the better known dudes who do this pre-purchase check at the sellers house. If he can't help he may be able to recommend someone who can....

No need for you to take it anywhere. Get him to take it to the nearest OPC and have the check done.

You could ask for any of the two options below:

1. If it passes, you pay and add the warranty (I repeat, ADD THE OPC WARRANTY!!).
2. If it fails, he pays, and gets the work done at his expense, and then you'll buy it (and then ADD THE OPC WARRANTY!)
3. If it fails, you deduct the cost of the repairs from the price, get them done, and ADD THE OPC WARRANTY!!).

If he refuses any of the above, walk (no, run) away. There are plenty out there.

Seriously, you must get it checked by an OPC, and you must get the OPC warranty if you intend to run such a car.

Others on here will likely confirm this.

Good luck.

That car is not overly cheap.
