battery dead

hi

silly me left the lights on and now battery is 110% dead - Ive tried to open bonnet by attaching spare battery to fuse box connection and neg on door, it made a few small sparks when attached but didnt give enough power to open bonnet. now when i try again car is lifeless - could i have shorted something , if i have what and how may i sort this out? is there another way of opening bonnet manualy ?
