So if you thought you could stump up around the mid 30s to spend on a bit of pork and importantly you had an estate for all the boring stuff…….. what would you buy???

Started the search and was starting to explore some of the more interesting 964s but before I get too wedded to this idea I thought I would explore your collective consciousness….

Cheers

Well with an estate to deal with other matters...

A 993TT but £35k is rather at the low end.

Otherwise... a 993C2S. Or...hmmm...maybe a 964 Turbo II 3.6?

was on a very similar page. However, 35k doesnt get you a 993TT and for the money a 964 3,3 is more plausable than a 3.6

edited to add that £35k may get you a 993TT but the mileage will be around the 90++ mark....

Not bothered by LHD and you could prob get another warranty for 2 years.... not totally convinced of the merits of buying the cheapest model on the market...

Keep them coming gents

If I had mid £30k's to spend on a weekend car I would go for a 993 2S, or if I could stretch closer to £40k a 993tt.
A 993tt is a fantastic car for the money.

No aircon though...and I don't think I'd buy one without it, personally.

I reckon there are one or two RHD GT3s about which could be bought for more or less that money.

Do you need the option of rear seats though? Do you need to use it every day? These factors all determine what would be a sensible buy. There are some Tip 996 TTS about for sub £40k now too...

Unless you are into 10-15 year old cars I'd look at two options.....

New series 987 Boxster S, fabulous car, great value used, probably still under warranty.

If you fall into the must have a 911 bracket, you can get a very nice 996 for that money, push the money up a little bit (as we all end up doing) & a 996 C4S could be on the cards!

Not too bothered abt the rear seats - may i ask where you think the RHD GT3s reside?? if you could pick at RHD one up for c £35, then surely LHD versions would be going for C £30k.....????

The estate is an auto - would only opt for a manual....

993C2S - if it's got higher mileage then you'd have some spare for Bilsteins.

Has a Boxster s for about 2 years. fantastic car keeps up with a bog std 911 (996) until you get significantly past 3 figures (although saying that so did the s2000...). Great handling etc etc just fancy something a bit different/special that is capable of a long hack if I feel the need!

The problem with a std 996 if that I suspect it wouldn't be a big enough change after the 986 when it comes to the driving experience. I suspect the following would be very different though:
996 GT3 (may just cost in)
993 S (nothing to really fault but looks expensive when compared to a 964)
964 Turbo (prob have to be a 3.3 for the money)
964 RS (budget would prob be shot)

I suspect the list will create uproar in that very different cars/styles etc but with an estate as a back up I feel I can pretty much entertain anything (as long as it falls within budget).

Just seen there is a meet at the Ace cafe this Saturday - suspect that the b-fast maybe a worthwhile investment....

I'll be finding myself in a very similar position to you real soon Cab ..
It also occured to me recently that £35-37 is just about falling between the cracks .. Too low for a sorted GT3 or 996TT (or any decent 993TT) , and just right for a 02-03 C2 .. But is that just going to feel exactly like my '99 C2?

So do I end up with a '97 993? ..

Let the hair pulling commence :AAAARGH:

For a plaything 965 3.3 or may just stretch to a 3.6 for the money

For a working car 996 facelift C2

Doubt youd get a 993TT or 964RS or 996 GT3 for the money and dont find a bog standard 993 or 964 as enticing as any of the above

- If I wanted newish and convenient, 996 C4S

- But in reality, I’d go for the best 964 Turbo II 3.3 I could find, in the knowledge that I was buying an absolute classic that wouldn’t depreciate much.
