After selling my 968 in March I will soon be in the position to buy another car for daily use.

I have been drawn to an E46 M3 but the lure of Pork keeps bring me back to a 911 and I just love the look of this.

I know the interior colour is not ideal but it is low mileage for a 21yr old car. My thoughts would be to get something like this or a 964 and have a run around too. So, 2 cars for the price of a M3.

After being stung for head, cams, etc etc on the 968 I have been put off buying another Porsche. Is a 3.2 like the above a potential money pit?

I'd agree - the other way to look at it is that two years furhter depreciation on the M3 will pay for the 911.

Quite like this too: http://www.911virgin.com/32utw.htm

Just my humble opinion, but I don't think you did badly at all with regards to p.a. depreciation and running costs... i also got mine off eBay (following heart) and i'm expecting to get stung for a clutch etc. though i did check that the cambelts/pinion were sorted. It seems like a good idea to buy a car which has had huge service bills ... paid by the previous owner of course!

If they have been looked after, the cars are pretty robust. There is a possibility of rust around the headlights, splash panels and sills......oil leaks are quite common but not terminal. Look for a buyers guide in 911 & PW, for the 3.2, (they have just done a good job on the 993TT in this months issue, however I'm biased as it was my car they used!)....as Henry says buy on condition. There aren't many really good ones out there, but worth searching for.

Yes I think I have a copy of that.

Excellent article by the way, your car is stunning.

Go for it 968CSReading.
I used to own a 968 Sport and took the plunge into 911 ownership about 1 year ago.

My 911 is a 1989 Carerra 3.2 and at first seemed very industrial when compared with the 968. It seemed slow and heavy.
My 911 is also costing me loads mre money than the 968 to keep looking and going well, but after all it is a car thats 20 years old.
The driving experience is very different. It takes time to master driving a 911 and this is the fun of having a car like this.
The website www.impactbumpers.com is also a very useful place to exchange ideas and ask questions.

Do it, IMHO
