Can't believe I drove the car to Derby after so many people wanting to view the car down south and had it there this week with no joy with people who apparently wanted to view it. I understand people have a busy life to lead but so have I and talk is really so cheap!!!!

I have taken the car back to Scotland for a few viewers and the price is back where I said it would be by the end of the week as it was lowered for convenience.

I will never ever sell a car again privately!!!!!!

Anyone wants to see the car, they can come to my home in Glasgow, no more travelling the country to show people the car!!!!!

I will have the car professionally polished before release and the speedo will be fixed as it just needs a part from the diff connector on the gearbox apparently under further investigation so nothing to worry about.

I'm sure I've been in the position myself, but please guys if ya are reading this and don't have the asking price and are still unsure what ya want then don't call, thats all I'm gonna say. frown

What a terribly obvious way of advertising your sale.

Why drive it about to be seen? Someone wants to buy it they can jolly well come and see it.

what a shame although not all private sales are so bad, sold my 911 in ten days on ebay, no hastle, buyer turned up with nearly £30k of cash and off he went, no bartering, no test drive just clean and simple sale

You might think so, personally I see it as an update on what has been a master class in why sometimes it's better just to bend over and sell to trade than get fvcked about by private buyers.

Because he seems a genuinely good bloke who sticks by his word, has something he'd like to sell, and wants to get the best posibble market for it so is being flexible. It's the difference between selling something and someone having to buy it.

Here's what you need to do...this is a great car to take along to classic car shows and leave it in the selling section or on a club stand. There are quite a few shows coming up. I think the price is reasonable and the car is exceptional- given its been mechanically and bodily overhauled the mileage seems to be of no issue. Cannot understand why its not selling- have you had any feedback from people who turn up and dont buy?

Strange your having so much trouble.

First person to look at mine privately bought there and then - transferred the cash electronically that week, picked it up the following weekend.

Very easy and smooth transaction - though, as someone else said, why are you running around to show people the car? Are you that desperate to sell? if so, perhaps an indy would be better just to save you the time/cost of things?

I advertised my car and sold it easily. No hassle and no problems.

Selling my bike seems to attract more timewasters though

You're crazy.

I know it's a unique car and all that but if someone's keen enough to actually put their hand in their pocket, they'll come to you to look at it.

If you go to them, it's all too easy for them to pi55 you around because they haven't actually expelled any effort seeing the car.

Take your man in Derby for example. If he was really serious he'd have got in his car/on a plane and come to your house with the readies. You going all the way to him means he's lost nothing just turning round and saying "no thanks"

I'm not having a go, but the first rule of a private sale is be polite and flexible but don't bend over for a fisting - you might's aswell go to a dealer for that!

Maybe I should've explained I work and live there during the week so it wasn't going there solely for the viewers but so many asked me could I have it closer.

I had advertised my car for 6 weeks in total and got 1 caller north of the border so maybe you'll see why I thought there was a logistical issue based in Glasgow.

I wasn't looking to push the sale I was mearly chatting about the private market as I had been before.

I thinking about just taking it off the market as TBH it is just wasting valuable time that I don't have.

I don't think it's an unfair price considering the work that has gone into it. And I want people to stop offering me thousdands less considering they ain't even viewed it!!

I mean one joker wanted me to wait 6 weeks till he got funds!!!!!

I would not be selling if I was just changing cars, but as I think that anything uder 25k sells easily I thought it would be a fairly simple process like some others have found.

Thx Rude-boy and Paracemetmol, thats maybe the problem everyone seems to love it but never buys it and doesn't tell me why it's not for them.

Maybe the speedo not working until now has been the problem, but car drives fine and to me is better looking than some of the dogs out there for 12k!!

Guy is flying up next week to see it.

I dunno I give in selling cars!!

Raising the price because you can't sell is a rather unsual strategy.

I lower the price cos I didn't want to use funds is a special savings account for a property I was buying this week, but as I'm in no rush I've now put it back to the original price. The ad did say 1 week only. Hey it's no difference to me cos people still wanna offer me 12k no matter what price it is!! hehe

Thx for the info, but sorry mate too busy to goto Leeds and it is like 200miles that would make my round trip bleeding 900miles this week in it.

And also after this week running around I think I'll let people come to me as advised.

Its always the same you have only got to read the posts on here..The 993 boys pump up the volume (or try to) in order to try and keep values high of that particular model. They give the 996 a hard time and the drivers of new cars tend to try and edge the argument the other way for the same reason.
The sad fact of car ownership generaly, and more so with restored (by owner) cars is that you never get back anything like what you put in, its that simple.
The only way a car sells quickly is if the price is right, and that means the right price to the guy with the money to spend not the seller...its a fact of life.
You need to think..how long have a had the car on and off sale?? Whats it cost in terms of hassle and time, not to mention real terms in money running it about. Dont take this the wrong way please but just maybe you will have to set your target price lower and take what you will no doubt see as a bit of a hit.. Or keep it. Good luck either way.

Sorry to hear you're problems!
Personally i have never had any issues selling privatly, having sold 3 911's over the last 4 yrs.
You know the people who are serious or not by asking the right questions and by what questions they ask you.
I have never heard of anybody travelling to a potential customer when we are talking cars.

Thanks for the sensible words mate. My point is that if my car was a kinda cleaned up car then 12-13k would be unrealistic. But it's had 12k spent on it to get it to a decent condition that is well worth 15k, and yeah sure more money could be spent on it. If people viewed it maybe they would relaise that I'm advertising!! I'm not saying it's a new car but it's better than some of the garbage out there!!

I'd rather keep it than take the hit as my own speat and blood went into making it a fine example, and maybe thats why it's not just about the money hit this time.

I wasn't travelling to the people I was just moving the selling location to further south if that makes sense due to the demand in location change.
