Porbably best to use leptons when talking about speed on a public forum... I normally do around 90 leptons per hour

I drive at the speed limit.

Honest.

Edited to say, speed varies according to conditions...

Traffic permitting, I tend to cruise at around 85-90 (indicated figure) with occasional forays into low three figures to overtake or to liven things up wink

(My GPS detector suggests that the 993 speedo over-reads by around 5% so in practice it's not that high).

I tend not to stray over 100 too much any more, mindful that 30mph over the prevailing limit means a starting presumption that a ban is in .order

I don't usually exceed 100 as a rule. But I also never really drive more than 10mph faster than other traffic also. Seems to work as I've never been pulled for speeding.

socially acceptable.... i think it depends how busy the motorway is, wet or dry and visibility.

e.g. wet good visibility moderate traffic 60 - 70 with good gaps
obviously slower if its high traffic and poor visibility

dry, perfect visibility, low / no traffic - cars top speed which appears to be 85 -90 for most cars i have seen.

Now introduce CO2 emmisions into the mix and we should all be driving at 50 to save the planet from getting a warmer place to live

Only allow myself to do 2 figure lepton speeds now frown Very boring. 85-90 seems to be the magic range when it comes to caution vs points/fine.

I just try not to stand out, that usually means following something traveling faster than me (and faster than the limit) and hoping it's not an unmarked plod car!

Does anyone have any tips for spotting unmarked plods? (before it's too late of course!).

think you best bet here is type and age of car and the look for kids in the back, fury dice etc all on the basis of ruling out rather than trying to spot one.

Volvos and BMW still seam popular

A few years ago I did some advanced driving with ex-Police instructors. They were pretty adamant that up to 85mph (on the speedo so 79 - 82-ish true) was not going to cause me any problems, but above that and you're increasing the risk of getting pulled.

This advice may no longer but current, but its the speed I use, traffic willing, and (fingers crossed) I haven't had any problems, even when passing a patrol car.

Ah, but the quicker you get where you're going, the sooner you can switch off that planet-destroying motor...
