I always wondered how these tuners can launch their conversions just a few days after the factory models hit the market if they don't get factory support or...

When I was at the Nurburgring 2 weeks ago I saw the new GT2 in the flesh
the chap from Manthey said there was a silver and black one there for a few days
it looked incredible in the flesh ( more road presence than the turbo )

I didnt have time to get a picture

Aren't Porsche anal about the use of their logo etc.
Disclaimers abound on Porsche Indy or Parts ads.
Not associated to.... etc etc
Imagine Wendy's face when they found out.

But Techart was an official Porsche sanctioned entity wasn't it? I clearly remember a UK motorshow 964 in mint green decked out in full Techart crap (sorry, I meant "styling&quotwink on Porsche GB's stand.

Wow - what a turn up for the books this story is. Way to bite the hand that feeds you, TechArt. My understanding is that TechArt was not only Porsche sanctioned, but was started and was got going by a bunch of ex-Porsche AG engineers. So whilst a lot of their stuff looked pretty naff to me, it was supposed to be pretty well engineered and produced by people with a fair bit of Porsche expertise. In my experience, TA were the most likely tuning guys to be recommended by OPCs in Germany, and certainly my OPC here always had a selection of TA brochures kept handy somewhere for those looking for a little bit of extra tat to chuck at their Porkers. I can't believe that if the alleged theft took place that it wasn't sanctioned at the highest levels within Tech Art, and I wonder if there isn't more to the story than first appears. Maybe they've been doing this for ages? Maybe it's been OK to do it before in a nudge-nudge, wink-wink way with smaller bits and bobs. To steal the new GT2's drivetrain seems like taking the piss, tbh.

I must point out that I don't know the facts, but I'd be really surprised if it was a clear cut "theft".

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was unrealistic pressure from TechArt management combined with a good dollop of the pressure source not knowing what the pressure target was doing. Then you've got those historic links, and the nudge nudge, wink winkery in the middle. I wouldn't be surprised if Porsche knew in some small way what was going on. I don't think they really like all the attention they get from aftermarket tuners, and in some way I'd not be surprised if the circumstances were a convenient opportunity to "bite back".

It'll be interesting to see the truth, if it ever filters it's way out.

All sounds a bit fishy to me, and that other forum seems to have posters of an age not permitted to drive on the public road...

Be interesting what the truth is though. Didn't think these guys were ever big on tuning, more dubious body kits...

If you read what little german news is available on the topic, the TechArt version boils down to 2 subcontractors at the Porsche development center stealing an engine and reselling it through a local parts dealer. TechArt tried to buy what they deemed a used 997 Turbo engine from Porsche trials and upon unpacking discovered that it was quite something else - at which point they claim they returned the whole lot to the dealer... Time will tell whose version is closer to the truth.

Hi all.

I'm not happy about that, hope there is still support from the vendors.

I have a 986S with TA chip, manifolds, cats, exhaust and filter.
