Simple question, opinions sought.

I reckon I can afford a Cayman S when they get to £30k. It is inevitable that this will happen sometime, but any ideas when? This would be for a car with 'average' miles, spec. etc.

Thanks!

If £30k is your budget then why not just buy a 2 yr old 987 Boxster S now - 95% the same car as a Cayman and you don't have to wait. Unless you can afford to wait at least 18 months/2 years. There is still a decent wait on the new Caymans which will keep prices decent for at least another 12 months. In my humble opinion it will be at least a couple of years before the "S" models reach £30k and for that you will probably get a pretty tatty, basic one. Bear in mind 3-4 year old 986 Boxster S's still go for high 20's and they are old models and nowhere near as sought after as a Cayman. Just a thought - good luck with your search though.

Just to let you know. Dealers quote about 32k on non s models, if your trying to upgrade to an S. They are going to hold up the S models for some time. Unlikely they will drop to 25k for quite a while, partly cause there is nothing else as good for the money, and they are 95% the same as a cayman S.
PS. They are amazing. Had a boxster S, now my 2.7 cayman and its immense.

Thanks for the replies, folks. I am reckoning on about 2 years, as has been mentioned. I do think they are depreciating quicker than the 911s of the same era, though.

I saw an immaculate Cayman S trade at £36k at auction recently so it won't be that long till they reach £30k

Leading on to another topic, slightly.

Does anyone know how Porsche are going to develop the Cayman S? Much more horsepower pushes it closer to the 911. OK, so the Carrera can be increased by the same amount, but that surely would push it further and further upmarket, and out of its natural habitat.

See. What did I tell you? And all in the space of thirty minutes .... biggrin
How much were they new? If they are reaching £36k(auction)-£40k(private), then it can't be long (<2 years) before they reach £30k?

Didn't they have the same issue with the 968 (Turbo) - and then ended up replacing it with something different. Shame really, as not everyone goes for 911s - maybe i'll change with time, as i'm just not into Porsches in the same way as some 911 enthusiasts are {puts flame suit on} and will always hanker after something with the engine in the right place wink

Maybe they'll strip it out and make a CS version without needing to up the power.

Nah the 911 needs a boost. Its beginning to drag behind the competition, and they need to give Audi/Aston/Ferrari etc a good kicking.
