How would you suggest they tackle down force and cooling ?
Like this..........................
With style, like Aston, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati, Audi etc, its time they stopped with the stupid wings & gaping holes & used real design rather than "look like old stuff cop-out", Porsche can do awesome design & function witness the CGT, stunning!!!

There is no doubt about their ability to design fabulous drivers cars, but exterior esthetics's are going rapidly downhill, why can't we have fabulous drivers cars that are great to behold rather than ever more Subaru/Evo look alikes!
I LOVE PORK, but they need to wake up on the design front!

Tottaly agree Grant, i got flamed yesterday for commenting on the GT3 RS's bolted on Ironing Board Spoilers! If Lambo,Aston and Ferrari can do it then why cant Porsche?
As for the down force arguement? How come the 997 S seems to stop itself from taking-off without these add-ons OR does it mean that if you get a 997 chipped or upgraded to say 400bhp that you need to get an Aero-kit??

The 911 shape is great for generating rear-end lift, I think. My theory is that the rear engine also makes it nigh-on impossible to do decent underfloor aero stuff which would preclude the use of dirty great big wings, i.e. nowhere to put the venturis ! I for one would love a GT3 sans wings...
I agree with Grant - mind you I'm not going to be too bothered about the niceties of design when I pick mine up from the factory! Re comments about deleting the rear wing, with those flared rear wings if you squint and imagine the wing deleted it looks horribly like...a Cayman!

For all those complaining about the spoilers on the 911 GT2/3s, these are the only 911s that do not generate lift at speed. Indeed, the coffee table bolted to the back of a 996GT3 doesn't notionally generate any significant downforce - it just neutralises the lift of the classic 911 shape. As has been said, the position of the engine is exactly where you would put venturi tunnels (which is why Fezzas and ginis don't normally wear wings) - there is no other solution than wings for a 911.
As for all the slats and louvres on the new GT2, I don't think they are terrible but definately some poncey style over substance going on there. Do RSRs have that nonsense...?

Not sure whether the numbnuts in Brussels would go into a tizzy, but you could actually have a extending diffuser, as the RSR does. Likewise the rear wing could be taller, wider, and extend farther back.As for all the slats and louvres on the new GT2, I don't think they are terrible but definately some poncey style over substance going on there. The ugly slots are probably necessary for cooling, and naturally look worse in white than in any other colour.
