Discussion

after selling my 993 TT, hope this car is worth my marriage, because boy is she pissed
but hey you can't take it with you
not that it's mine to take with me anyway....some loanshark
who'es done me proud, well for at least untill the anti-climax sets in and you've got to keep telling your self that you've done the right thing and you will not lose 20 grand like on the other porsche you just sold, and the one before that
but hey i'm the one that works 24-7 , laying blocks from 7 in morning till 7 at night, i told her what do you want, i always get the same reply, nothing
we a'ynt got no money, she would only waste it on silly things like paying the mortgage & council-tax, oops dinner's ready gora go, speak to you later

Fit a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres.
Get either JZ Machtech or Parr Motorsport to set the suspension geometry.
Make sure the brakes are in good condition.
Then you are ready for action. There are plenty of other upgrades but the standard car is very quick, strong and durable.
Depending on your level of driving skill and experience I expect you'll benefit most from track time and instruction.

hi Scott, the car has been set up by redline, and new pilot sports put on , as for the brakes i have not seen the car yet, only on piston heads, so lets hope they are ok, thanks for infoFit a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres.

Regular Pilot Sports or "Cups"? There is a monumental difference. Make sure it's Cups.In terms of brakes you can go with the standard Porsche disks, the optional Porsche "motorsport" disks (which are cheaper) or if you want the very best, the Alcon disks from JZM.
As has been documented a zillion times before, the car is awesome on track. There is a thriving GT3 owners community/mailing list over at Titanic.
Look forward to meeting you on a trackday very soon.
chap,
gt3 rs - u won't regret that choice in a hurry.
upgrades imho - 1. geo setup, makes a huge difference for both road and track. worth getting jzm or parr to check the current settings. 2. tyres, sounds like you're have to wear out the current set first which shouldn't take long if u track it. 3. brakes - if it's on ceramics and u aren't going to track the car, then great. if u r going to track it, the pccb failure worry will always be in the back of yr mind, which is hopeless. the best option is to get steve at jzm to whip them off pop them in a box and fit a lovely set of alcons (£3k + pads).
if u r worried about the increase in unsprung weight you could always buy a set of lightweight manthey or cargraphic rg5 wheels (another £3.5k incl tyres). 4. manthey k410 engine/exhaust enhancement......oh god it's all getting out of hand.
enjoy

ceramic faces start to break off if tracked heavily, should be fine for road use.
k410 is Manthey's engine conversion, JZM do it in the UK, cost is approx £8000.
Manthey also do a very worthwhile suspension conversion.
Good luck and welcome to the club you will not be disappointed
thanks mate, will keep in touch, you seem to be up on it and will keep you posted when i pick car up on saturday, k410 is Manthey's engine conversion, JZM do it in the UK, cost is approx £8000.

, nickmaily,
poon is absolutely right - there was life left in my ceramics after 12k and plenty of track use by last owner, but the failures are well documented elsewhere and quite common for 996 gt3/2's that are used as intended (ie on the track) which is pretty poor. u try getting porsche to admit that though, their attitude to brake manufacturing failures has become a torn in their previously solid reputation. thus i took the long term view and swapped to the alcon floating setup, which proved very satisfactory at Spa a few weeks ago.
the k410 conversion is expensive, but pretty tempting if funds allow. if u check out the jzm website there is a full explanation of whats involved. my car has this enhancement too.
the fully adjustable manthey suspension kit and mag wheels are on my wish list. finally fit yr harness if using on the track. makes a big difference in helping u feel connected with the car.
roll on saturday (you'll be collecting yr wheels and i'll be trying to stay out of the armco at the 'ring)

What we have fitted to heavily tracked GT3s/GT3RSs:
- Performance Friction steel disc and race pad conversion to save your PCCBs; approx 1600 GBP inc VAT using Porsche steel rear discs
- KW Variant 3 coilover suspension kit; what the Manthey kits are based on, approx 1950 GBP inc VAT
- Porsche Motorsport adjustable rear toe links, approx 580 GBP inc VAT
- Cup car gear shift cables, approx 400 GBP
- Fearnsport suspension set-up
The engine is 400 bhp or so anyway, so doesn't lend itself to a lot of tuning. If you want to go quicker on the straights, get a GT2 and start fitting GT3/Cup bits to it
