Good evening all,

I run a 911 c2 cab tip, 2001 model, very low mileage. I am thinking about shipping the car to Ruf and have them install their compressor unit.

Has anybody got such an installation done on their car, and what kind of improvement can I expect. Is it just the compressor that needs to be installed or do I need to upgrade the whole car?

Thanks for your comments and suggestions

Hello

I have seen 3 911 supercharged cars and 2 were 996 and 1 was a 993...they totally ruined the car for me they were not noticibily quicker just noiser....the 996 engine is certainly not renowned for being strong in construction so why put it under more stress.... ? If the engine could of coped with forced induction porsche would of used it in their turbo charged cars...TT and GT2 ...so why did they not ?

Just some food for thought.

Hi Mike
Thanks for your remarks, the reasoning that Porsche puts behinds its actions is sometimes difficult to understand.

But indeed the 996 engine is not known to be the most strong engine, on the other hand Ruf is also an experienced tuner, if the engine would be unable to cope with the stress then why would they propose their compressors.

Thats the reason why I put this question forward, is it worth while, if it s just noice then I can just as well change the exhaust, they claim up to 100+ horses, surely they serve some purpose other than noice

Anyway please give me your ideas

Many thanks
Ronny

RUF must have faith in their product as they give a 12 month warrant for the whole engine post conversion - not just the supercharger. It's quite expensive though, I think.

I haven't driven any supercharged 996's though, so couldn't comment on real world improvement in performance.

Better to upgrade to a TT, if possble! smile

16610LV Hi,

Thanks for your reply, indeed also my thinking, RUF gives a 12 month warranty, RUF is a well known, well respected tuner hence they dont play around.

Regarding your idea about upgrading to a TT, well I d love to but one needs to take into consideration "the female factor". The lady of the house would notice a new car, whereas she s got no clue what s under the bonnet (doesnt know how to open it !!!!)

The RUF of this world are big companies, hence they must have plenty of clients, hence there must be some guys around that run cars with similar setups. Please let us know

Thanks

When you get a chance , will you enter your previously owned boxster stats into this topic.. Should give em all something to think about!

I often quote your thoery of 'when she's cold treat her gently , when she's hot give her a good seeing to!!!'

Money would be MUCH better spent on a MK1 GT3 IMO, at least you will not
dump the money as soon as you drive it away...

I thought i read somewhere that RUF will only do these conversions on cars upto a certain age or mileage ??
If they are too old, then more internals need to be replaced, which obviously affects costs...

The Supercharger conversion took Ruf a very long time to develop and is quite thorough indeed.

I have driven a 2000 car with the conversion and its very fast. Really linear power delivery.

Best to drop them a mail at

Providing you buy a new car in the same Colour combo she will never noticewink
