Saw her on my way to the tube this morning on Fulham road at about 0930. My lord, first time I've actually seen one on the public roads, does NOT disappoint.

First mistook it for a GT3 RS from a distance from the front, but it was too dark an orange for the 'viper' orange. Then the air-intakes from the spoiler made themselves viewable. Nice!

Wait for it...

lol - saw the same car just by my office in Chelsea Harbour! Made the same initial mistake (thinking it was a GT3 RS).

Very nice (and I'm not a Porsche fan usually wink )

I think it's horrible! It looks like a Max Power front cover.

Well the guy driving it looked like he was pretty happy. Seems he couldn't wipe the smile off his face!

The above is exactly what I was waiting for...

I don't understand why some people always take this view on after-market upgrades on supercars. Its not like Kevin swapped his Saxo VTS for this. Its a horrifically expensive car!

The thing is people see a 997 GT RSR and think; WOW, thats amazing. what a great looking car, same with all DTM cars. But thats far more insane than the Gemaballa. The Gemballa has the power to go with it's presence, but it's just a road going track car.

Personally, although I am a pure-Porsche enthusiast, I think along the lines: If I own £100Ks worth of car I don't see why I shouldn't go out, spend a little more and get something even more exotic. Any fool knows a Porsche 911, but how many people in Joe Public know what the GTR Avalanche is, how much horsepower it pushes, what the purpose of one is?

I agree generally with Pigfarmer, but not in this instance!

It's pretty horrible, simply because its exterior is making a massive statement, fair enough if was a 650 version but it's a lot of bells and whistles for 500bhp? And £170k????

And as for stating that this superficial conversion is £129,000.00 WITHOUT the car - someone I presume is having a laugh.

OK.

I'm having a little trouble (lack of time) finding a comparison of the 650 vs. the 500 in terms of 0-60, torque, COST, etc, etc. Would be interesting to see how big the difference is!

Not wanting to get anyones back up here but; the 650 to this 500 (if we can call it that)is like an SL 65AMG V12 vs. an SL 55AMG V8. Both are profoundly fast @ 4.2 & 4.5 repectively and both carry almost exactly the same bodykit and looks.

Although the .3 secs is a lot to make up at these speeds, in reality the difference between them on a photo finish is very minute begging the question for a 'normal driver; is the extra £50K worth it? (obviously there are other factors like handling, but I'm trying to keep it simple).

So push the thesis over to the Gemballa; the extra cost compared to the extra performance. Is it worth it for everyone? I have no doubt the gent driving her will be tracking it, but I'd suggest that she'll get used a lot on the normal roads as well. Is the extra cost of the 650 engine conversion (Don't know how much) worth it when your already getting a horrifically fast car that looks amazing...

500 bhp? so what? 110k + 129k conversion = cgt + 10 to 20k change. get real. even at 170 its a joke. sheep in wolfs clothing.... chavtastic

Tracking it?? Doubt it. Like a lot of these exotica I have a funny feeling this thing will never get out of third gear cruising around certain areas of London.

Ok fair enough. I'd go with the CGT as well. But the point is that it would be an extremely boring (and inadvanced) world if everyone went for exactly the same thing.

Bare in mind that this guy paid £70K less than the quote your giving above for the car and the conversion!

Erik997. I'm not so sure. I think that if we think about drivers who get super cars at their worst in Joe Publics opinion (i.e. that they are all spoilt, thick, uncapable drivers who have more money than sense) then fair enough. Personally I think this is just a contorted view of wealth through the green eyes of jealousy. We'll see people slagging of drivers of CGT's on here as well!

The reality is that yes, the car will be driven around certain parts of London and shown off - hell wouldn't you. A mate of mine took out a new racing (road) bike on our club ride a few weeks back which cost him £8G, in most peoples eyes thats insane, but he was so proud of her that wanted to show her off. Good money says that this car will be taken to a track (maybe even Gumball - Haha), but it's unlikely it will be raced in a series or anything, but it's one mans car, not a team car.

I just think this car is more about how it looks and how much it has cost than how it goes.

Some people like Rolexes with diamonds all around them, others like an IWC - they're both watches and will both tell the time, but they reflect different tastes.

This car is not to my taste and I'd rather not drive at all than drive on city roads in a 500bhp Blingmeister Apfelsine Uberwallet.

I respect the right of others to disagree and to buy and drive such things.

Personally, (if I won the lottery!) I would spend a few grand extra and get a Ruf RT12 - the 650bhp version. It has got to be the ultimate 911. Plus, I've heard some "interesting" stories about Gemballa cars, but nothing but praise for Alois Ruf and his team.

to quote another poster on another amari thread (do a search, its one of the few posts that haven't been deleted) "by becoming advertisers, amari could be seen to have bought the right to have any bad references deleted". this seems a shame to me, most especially in light of what those posts declared (i mailed the posters in question) and how much faith I'm guessing we all place in the endorsement of quality that being an advertiser on Ph creates (to me, i always consider it a 'safe' environment).

certainly if you look around for a while, the owners extensive criminal record for clocking and cutting and shutting cars is on public record. this would make me think twice about buying a car from them\ him. in fact, it did.

but then, I suppose theres worse examples too. its just unfortunate that this poor chap got caught. Others get away with much worse im sure.
