Convert 944 Power steering to manual????
Discussion
Hi I wonder if anybody can help me?
I'm new to this and don't know a great deal about cars. I've had my 1985 Porsche 944 for about 2 months and my power steering just broke. I took it to the garage to see what he thinks and he told me the steering rack was knackered.
Does anybody know if it is possible to replace the power steering rack with a manual rack? If so, how much work is involved? Will it be worth my while? Does anybody know where i can pick up some relatively cheap replacements either power or manual?
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

You could try a breaker for a used rack etc and just leave the original bracket on the front of the engine, with the power steering pump removed and the reservoir etc taken off - but the steering will be heavy and you might find enough used parts to repair it at a reasonable cost - with power steering which will also improve the re-sale value.
