Whats gone wrong with your 930 turbo?

First thing, buy on condition not miles service history no gaps , top end rebuilt has it been done yet or due one , clutch has it been replaced or due ?.Colour also talk to the seller build yourself a picture of what you thing he should be like after talking to him.
Why is he selling how long has he had the car?.
Brakes pads disc's check them exhaust is it stainless steel?.
Wheels are they the right ones for the car what you want is a stock one not a messed around one .
As for price under £20k anything over they are asking silly money .
You will see many priced over £20k but are very hard to sell at that price as many people find out in the end. You should find one for under £20k what colour are you after there are loads of reds, blues are you after a later 80's one or a early one they were four speed 915 box till 89 then onto a g50 five speed.
Many people when I was looking were asking far to much all because of the badge on the front of the car .Some of them looked the part nice paint work but when you stated to look undernearth horror I only wanted a black one which is maybe why my search took longer.
Golden rule do not let your heart rule your head it took me four years to find the right one at the right price.A PPI inspection could be a good idea as well.
GOOD LUCK let us know how it goes.

Lovely iconic cars and enjoyed mine very much, but be aware that virtually every bit of it costs at least double the equivalent part for an SC or 3.2 of a similar vintage. That includes bodywork, so be very wary of rust or damage to the unique front wings and rear quarter panels, gearbox (4 speeds prone to sychro damage so listen out for crunching), suspension, brakes, and of course that engine. If you are not sure you would spot anything amiss, an expert inspection could pay for itself many times over. Buy a good car and they are supremely robust. I had some financial pain with mine when I first got it (I stupidly didn't have an inspection), but thereafter it was great - Other than routine servicing all it needed in 10 years ownership was a clutch and a pair of heat exchangers.
I've had mine for 18 months now and so far it has only needed 2 straightforward services. I have chosen to spend more than that looking after the car because I prefer to over maintain it. After all it is 18 and a half years old and I do like to use the performance..
I am no mechanic so was careful to buy one in tip top condition. I actually had it inspected twice! I also chose to pay top dollar to get a car in the best condition I could find. I wanted one of these for a long time and didn't see the point in fannying around over a couple of grand because some bloke on an internet forum said it was worth less..
The best cars are definitely worth more than £20k. I know of 2 other people who bought well sorted '89 5 speeders and we all paid in the 20-24k range. I also have 2 firm offers to buy it from me at the same price should I decide to sell. That's 10,000 depreciation free miles
If you like the look and feel of the car, I would suggest you get it inspected. If you are not a mechanic, you won't spot half the stuff you need to look out for anyway. There are people out there with excellent knowledge who will find the nasties for you. They are well worth the money as they could potentially save you a fortune in the long run.
By the way, they are wonderful cars..
