TVR and Lotus owners???
Discussion
I think both marques are great and have owned 911's and TVR's. I am currently deciding between a Sagaris and Cayman S as my next car. I think some Porsche drivers are perseved as being dismissive of more specialist marques such as TVR and Lotus. No body can argue that a TVR is in the same league of quality of engineering as a Porsche but they have a character and charm of their own with fantastic performance for the money. A Sagaris can be bought for sub £40k and offers equal performance to a GT3 costing £80+k. You hear some Porsche drivers describe TVR as 'crap kit-cars' when they really have little knowledge or experience of the models. Admittably, TVR build quality at various stages of history could be accurately described as 'poor' but this has not always been the case. It is again reflected in the cost of the cars. I think the defensive nature of TVR drivers comes from the underdog mentality of the small British manufacturer (once upon a time!!!) against the big bad mega-rich German corporation. Porsche are the most profitable car company in the world but this is because they build bloody good cars that sell well. Sadly TVR looks dead and buried which must be somewhat reflective of the companies standards and direction. The damage to their reputation with unreliable speed six engines in the early 00's and some poor build quality at the same time has proved too difficult to recover from.
