I remember when I bought my 996 being pleased that servicing would be "affordable" from now on, having been used to the 993 rule that 1 visit to the OPC = £1k. So imagine my delight in receiving today's estimate for the 4th annual service for my 14.5k mile 2003 C2 Cab. A mere £2,100 including the extended warranty.

Hint: cries of "you shouldn't have bought it if you can't afford it" or "why don't you take it to an independent" are expected, but not invited. I can afford it, and I'm servicing it at an OPC because it's 4 years old and so the extended warranty still means something. I'm just slightly stunned at the final figure...

Have you asked them for a breakdown of the cost? Why not ask them what it's made up of. Then get the menu service for the menu price and ask them for an advisory on what they think needs doing other than that so that you can decide to have it or not.

Doesn't sound over the top to me.

48k service is £600
Warranty is £895

I bet the rest is brake fluid (£150 every two years) and plugs (£150) and a belt change and fuel filter (£150 every four years) plus odds and sods.

Have they suggested new pads and discs yet (£2,000)

OPCs will ream you unless you actively manage them. They told me at the 72k service I needed new discs, which I politely declined. Same discs didn't even get a mention at 84k.

I got the limited mileage option last time; don't think you can do it twice in a row - unless the OPC is bullsh*tting me? I did get a breakdown per the previous poster's suggestion. There's nothing I can really question except for the general absurd cost of everything - £30/ltr for the oil, for instance, what do they make Mobil 1 out of, fairy blood and diamond powder? I can't decline things like the aircon service, because then (I predict) they'll decline any future aircon warranty claim in turn. I've had to pay for an aircon compressor before on my 993, and that was ++uncheap. So I think, basically, that I'm just having a moan.

Shopping around amongst main dealers is worthwhile if you have the luxury of 2 or 3 within a reasonable distance. When I have had 911's serviced and rang for quotes the prices can vary by 15% between dealers. Routine maintenance on a 911 is suprisingly good value but when extra work kicks in the price soon rockets in my experience!

Its also worth joining Porsche Club GB because you will get 10% discount on all the parts. This quickly adds up to more than the £60 membership fee if you are using the OPC for servicing.
