A call for help; yes, I'm wearing a D hat but help me all the same:

I've got the V317 form in front of me, and confused.

3 number plates involved thus:

1. My cherished one on my old car.

2. The plate that was on the old car when I bought it.

3. The plate on the new car.

In box 1 on the form, which of the above plates do i enter where it requires Details od Donor vehicle. Vehicle reg number.

Also, will it be easier for me to take the form in person to Borehamwood dvla?

cheers.

As I understand it you simply need to transfer the Cherished number from one car (donor vehicle) to another (Receiving vehicle).

If that's the case you only put the two registrations for these cars on the form. DVLA will automatically allocate a plate to the car that currently has the Cherished plate on (will probably go back on it's 'old' plate but this is not guaranteed).

If you haven't registered the 'new' car to yourself yet, just fill in the V5C for doing so (showing it's current plate) and put yourself as registered keeper on the V317 - this will all get done as part of the transfer process.

If both cars are taxed there's no need to go to the LVLO, just post it all. If you need tax then you may not want to include your original insurance document, in which case rather than going to the LVLO go to the Post Office and tax the 'new' car on it's current plate (but only showing the Post Office the green "new keeper supplement" part of the V5C) before submitting the application. Include a copy of the disc with your V317 (the systems don't all update immediately, so this will serve as proof to the DVLA that the Receiving car is taxed).

Hope this all makes sense and is helpful.

If you have any concerns, i would take all your doc's to the local VLO,. I found the Reading office really helpful and friendly.
