I don't often contribute but I do enjoy the craic on this forum. It's thoroughly entertaining as well as informative - except for 993 vs. 996 arguements, which are just hilarious. More seriously, I had seen a couple of 993s in SW London minus their mirrors recently, and now mine have been robbed too. I had thought that this problem had died away, but clearly it's still around. Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Anyone have thoughts on mirror security or alternatives to the 'much coveted' teardrops for 993s? Grateful for your advice.

Hm - that's not good news, given where my car tends to spend its time. Which part of SW London?

Anyone who has car parts nicked should be able to buy them back off ebay a few days later.

There was a story inour local paper about a guy who had a stack of parts stolen off the car on his drive. He later spotted them on ebay so he called the police who said they'd be onto it. He monitored the auction and when he saw they had been sold he called the police again. They claimed they had been too busy to follow it up, and even if they did manage to locate the ebayer chances are he'd just say he bought them in a pub.

Hmm, there goes the neighbourhood. I've since heard of or seen half a dozen cars which have lost mirrors over the last few days in this area...bit of local epidemic. There's even a car in PistonHeads classifieds which has suffered the same fate. Many thanks for the feedback. Does anyone have any thoughts on security?

Glue the tiny black grommet in. Can't easily remove the mirror without first removing it.

Lost my mirrors off the 964 close to Standford Bridge a few years ago... had the replacements "fixed" by putting some clear silicon on the top of the hex bolt and then dropping the little black cap into this while still sticky. Upshot if I did need to get them off I could do eventually by clearing out the silicon but that a sneak thief couldn't do it quickly by the side of the road.
Cheers

Just hope the scumbags don't try and yank the mirror off and damage the door in the process... good idea though, i might try the silicon sealant trick.

pilotpaul on this forum had his 993 mirrors nicked in Richmond, though that was about 2 years ago (his old targa)....presumably the scum bags sold them on eBay! furious....his new baby is always now ensconced in his garage...

In twelve months I've lost a couple of pairs of 993 mirrors and one set of rear lights.

I wouldn't bother to seal the bolt in; the mirrors are a snap off item.

I've had various advice from the police including that I should make mine the least attractive 911 in London. I responded that this was being done for me. At least he had the grace to laugh.
