New OPC in Burgess Hill & Cayneen thingy
Discussion
just say a cyneene thingy go past. Looked good though.
Oi wash your mouth out superlightr I've seen 'em on the road now and oh my god them thangs is ugg-err-leee.
They looks like the freakish offspring of some kind of cross breeding experiment between a dustbin lorry and a Boxster.
How can the company that made cars a gorgious looking as 356 speedsters, pre impact 911's, any RS's, GT3's etc etc, make that vile hippo on wheels.......

Iguana,
you really need to drive one, then see what you think
We (wife & I) drove one last week and I was ready to place an order. Trouble is we currently can't get the options we want with a sensile delivery time.
Also, it seems I'm not allowed one of these and my 993
They are a bit juicy, but believe me they go well, and handle better than any other big 4x4 I have driven.
Agreed, the looks take a bit of getting used to.
Cheers,
John.

Will Cayenne fans please stop confusing comments about the Cayenne's uglyness as being an attack on its dynamic behaviour or its desirability?
I may at one stage in the future have a Cayenne, and may soil my jockey y-fronts whilst commandeering this fine piece of automotive engineering over some demanding blacktop, but it doesn't stop it being - IMO - the hunch back of the SUV world.
Look at an X5. A new Range Rover. Then tell me SUVs can't be decent looking. Porsche tried their best and failed, from an aesthetic point of view. Shit happens. It's still a fine car, but like the Edsel, and more recently, the bug-eyed Impreza, it hasn't been blessed with a universally accepted pulchritude.

I heard they were opening when Portslade (Rivervale OPC) closes after Christmas -- could be wrong but I heard this last night at my local PCGB meeting from a Rivervale rep.
And a Cayenne looked good??? Excrescence!

Dom,
I genuinely don't think the Cayenne is ugly, takes some getting used to yes.(although Mrs sb would agree with you!)
2 reasons for me ordering the Pepper and not a new 996.
1. A new 996 would have cost considerably more than the S.
2. I found that I wasn't using the 996 enough to justify the cost, the Cayenne will be used as everyday car,and I can get the family/luggage in with ease.

Fair play SB. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The looks do polarise opinion though - in a way that a 355 doesn't. Most people think that is a looker, from my experience
I just thought it was quite funny that you wondered why 996 sales were going down when you got rid of one for the Cayenne
Sorry, couldn't resist a little ironic comment, even if there were good reasons for the change. LOL
PS Some of the styling on the Cayenne, from a design point of view (me being obssessed with Eames chairs and Castiglioni brothers lamps etc.) is very fussy - the door handles were two tone on an S I saw recently, which is pretty unnecessary and a bit tacky IMO. I think they may have glitzed it up too far and made it too 'busy', probably whilst trying to incorporate all those 'Porsche family look' design cues. It's a design that works on paper, but somehow loses it in the translation, for me at least.
