GT3's taking flak at the ring..
Discussion
I've noticed the reputation of Porsche's are taking some abuse on the Nurburgring forums.

I hope this was no-one off here. I'm off there in a couple of weeks in my C2 which has never dropped any fluids. However I'm considering a coolant swap now if someone has died as a consequence.

When will the management at the Ring learn that cars and bikes on their track don't mix at all well...
We were there at the end of May and there were two deaths that weekend, both bikers, and there were numerous incidents of bikers getting inside of cars in corners and vice versa.
Appreciate the issue of a car dumping its coolant is a real problem but I am sure it is not only 911's that do this and perhaps he's just being a dick for implying this

GT3`s can overheat for a number of reasons and obviously when driven hard everything is put to the test.
Header tank split.
Header tank water cap not put on properly after checking the coolant the night before you set off round the ring (very easy to do)
Front rads leaking & not picked noticed
Front rads holed whilst on the ring
Air in the system when not bled properly
Any one of a number of hoses damaged / not fitting or pushed in properly
Head gasket failure
Cracked head
The light by the water temp will flash as the level drops in the header tank but very hard to spot when your eyes are focused on driving, ditto the temp guage. Porsche coolant is horrific when dropped on tarmac & turns it into an ice rink. I would imagine the people had no idea they were dropping fluid although if they did is there anywhere to pull over on the ring even if you wanted to ? Similarly it`s not like a circuit where you have marshals waving red & yellow flags as soon as they see someone dropping fluid (or rather not marshals by every corner as per a circuit).

Been having this conversation on another forum..
The Nordschleife on a public day.. is a public toll road.
Just like the A24 at Box Hill is a public road (with speed limits)
If you ride a bike (I have an R6R as well as a GT2) then it is your responsibility to ride with all possible eventualities in mind..
There are always vehicles dropping diesel/petrol/oil/coolant/brake fluid..etc etc... all the time on public roads.
If a biker decides to ride cranked over, knee down, on the limit.. around a blind bend, then slides on a dropped fluid.. then he only has himself to blame!
IMO

Ive had 3 radiators replaced in my GT2s/GT3s over the past 4 years
I now have a mesh guard protecting the the front Inlets before any stones etc hit the rads
My condolences go out to the person killed at the ring and after reading the reports he was an experienced biker/nurburgring attendee
( being an ex-biker and courier I do sympathise )
Ive often thought there is a flaw in the 996 Porsche having the Rads exposed and no protection against stones etc which at over 120mph hit the rads like bullets
keeping the aircooled shape with a rear engine watercooled car
There are pictures of the GT3s leaking on that BTG website
Very Sad!

what an utter complete load of cock
i would suggest the person most responsible for attempting to kill that biker is no other than himself.
to single pork out as the main culprit of coolent loss on the ring is simply stupid
if he thinks his life is at risk then dont run on the ring. same as a base jumper bemoaning the possibility that his 'chute may not open - lets face it that is the reason they do it in the first place

Controversial, Wetwipe..!i would suggest the person most responsible for attempting to kill that biker is no other than himself.

But sadly, I agree.
But if we are going to run on the Ring,we should keep our cars in tip top condition and check for leaks regularly, because i personally dont like seeing bikers getting killed whilst having fun in/on thier choice of vehicle. If through the neglegance of the maintanence of my car somebody had an accident and died,i would feel pretty sick.We are all humans.
