Insurance and options...
Discussion
Been trying to get a definitive view on this but it's proving tricky.
Do you guys insure your porkers as standard models, or run through all the options and declare them as 'modifications'?
I have read that a lot of companies now count options as mods..
This will mean a huge hike in premium for me as my 996 has several factory options such as:
Carbon interior option
Carrera spoiler and side skirts
PSE
Sports suspension
Bose
etc
This is madness!!
cheers

Seem to remember asking about the sports suspension before, and it was fine if factory fitted.
Don't think any other factory fitted interior bits/spoilers etc would have any affect, just don't expect any extra money if you need to make a claim.
Definately worth double checking though for peace of mind.

It seems wrong to me that insurance comapanies can treat options as modificiations. Surely if that's how the car left the showroom then it's unmodified.
On the flipside, if the options make it more desirable then I suppose they could argue it's more likely to be stolen.
Nothing would suprise me with insurance companies. The robbing bar stewards seem to get away with everything. As previous poster said, maybe best to check, but I will continue to insure mine as a standard model unless the online form specifically ask's for "factory-fitted options" rather than "modifications".

Cheers for the replies.
Seemingly if you use admiral / elephant / bell then you have to declare EVERY OPTION as a mod!
It even says so on their website.
The best bit - in the event of a clain they don't actually insure the extras!
So imagine this scenario - you get hit from the side - damaging the sill and side skirt...
they repait it as standard - you have one side with a skirt and one without!
Muppets.
