I had my retro-fit PCM 2 yesteday and it really does finish off the centre console of the car...

One quick problem though. On a normal Sat Nav you drive up the screen and on mine I'm driving down - any ideas on how to change this (if it can be changed) - sadly I don't have a manual.

im pretty sure you can't. although the sat nav is functional, it isnt the best unit on the market.

having said that, it hasnt failed to get me to all the destinations requested of it

On the new ones, you can set it so the map is always north or the cursor is always north. I am pretty sure you can do it on PCM 2 as well. I think, when you are on the map screen, you push in the knob and it will bring up another menu in which you can set it. If not then it may be in settings on the nav or map screen?

That's surprising. Does it mean PCM 1 doesn't allow that neither? Is that the consensus?

IIRC:

Press the button on the right hand side to bring up the map display

Press the "set" button on the right hand side of the PCM2 module to bring up a small menu. You can then adjust the orientation there.

Mrs S has my car today, so I can't pop out & check, but I am pretty sure this is how it is done.

Schmalex, how about the 1999 996 3.4?

Ok, so now I'm going to seem dumb, partly bcos I set it when I got home, but do I want the cursor pointing North or the map always North to have it look like a normal Sat Nav ?

Here is a link to the PCM2 owners manual. This might help (you may need to register first)
