Am I the only one to think that a GT4 ie a stripped out 3.6 would be a good idea for Porsche to make and sell? Get the weight down to 1200-1300kg, 3.6 manual in 325bhp tune, little or no equipment. Sell for around the same as a Carerra. Or am I a crazy fool?

Sounds like more of a "Club Sport" to me. I think this would also be a good idea for the Cayman.

because the GT clases are racing catagories, and a striped out C2 is not going to use a race proven engine. So yes, more likely a CS.

There is in fact a GT4 race class now. SRO (who run British GT) have introduced it as a "lower" class to GT3 / Cup class for more standard road based cars. A pair of Caymans were entered at Silverstone.

The FIA GT4 website

So who knows.

A better idea would be to put a GT3 engine in it along with a GT3 gearbox, diff uprights and brakes.

That would be a nice little car.

You might be on to something there Steve, a sort of.....GT3 I suppose.

I`m thinking of doing a stripped out GT3 as my next project.

OK then Club Sport. But you get the drift.

You don't NEED a 420bhp motor for a track car. And considering the reported cost of the GT3 motor a clubsport would be a nice track day weapon without breaking the bank.

I don't think a car with a GT1 base engine could ever be as cheap as a carrera?

It's an interesting point about the engine - will the current carrera engine ever be feasible in a track oriented car? i.e. will Porsche sort out RMS and other issues at some point so it has a rock solid reliability record it would need in cars that were tracked so much.
