Drove my new 996TT for the 2nd time today and love it.
Here are some things I wonder if people could clarify:

Under the engine lid is a fan with a wire coming out of it and a plug. Whats this for ?

Is it normal when changing gear that it sometimes feels sticky to take it out of gear, say 3rd to 4th. Its not that bad and I could get used to it. Do I need new gearbox oil?

Do these cars use any water/coolant or should the level stay the same ?

Cheers

Welcome to the world of pork - congratulations.

The fan you mention is a cooling fan - are you saying it's not connected? It should be.

The gear selection thing is not really normal. Are you engaging the clutch poperly? Is your seat far enough forward?

The fans working fine and its all wired up, but there seems to be an extra wire.

Clutch is all the way down. I've got long legs. wink

Taking it to Chiswick OPC at the start of August for a service and warranty extension. Expecting to take a pounding in the wallet.

Nice choice of car, have fun with it!

The water level should stay the same, but over time it might go down slightly, but never much. About the gears, that does not sound completly normal, explain it in a bit more detail?

If you ever need any help on a track day, give me a shout smile

The gears is only a minor thing. Sometimes in one gear it takes a tiny bit more effort to shift it to another.

You could describe it as the feeling you have when the gearbox is cold. But this happens when its warm. Thats why I thought it might be the gearbox oil .

The wire in the engine bay was for the light within the fan. Reconnected now and working smile

My light was disconected as well , is there an issue with this being conected ?

My tt seems stiff / notchy as well in 1st and second.

Its going in on tuesday to have one of the rads changed and the technician who drove it on friday thought the linkages needed adjusting.

Reckon your gonna need all 3 cooling rads at the front replacing

on turbo's & C4S's they dont last long, think it's due to crud/road salt build up in the corners causing corrosion

Cracking cars tho

Usually leaves stuck in the rads is the main problem causing corrosion..always blew mine out with the pressure cleaner..carefully of course.
