Many thanks to all those who have helped with valuble information on how to fit the becker head unit I have brought.

The more I think about it now though the more inclined im getting to asking a proffesional to install it for me, and prevent me damaging somthing.

I live in the Tamworth area of staffs, does anyone know a decent installer locally who they have used to do this sort of thing? or should i have a go myself?

Jon,

I fitted a Becker Grand Prix to mine last weekend and only took about 2.5 hours (being careful and slow), including getting the microphone for the bluetooth up the a-pillar.

If you do it yourself, watch out for the anti-theft connection on the lhs of the radio, that requires a bit of insulation tape in the same position as the plastic bit is on the unit you took out. That one caught me out until I did a deeper web search on it).

I put in a Becker about a month ago and wasn't aware of
this. What problem can it cause and where can I look on
the web?

Your horn will give a beep when you lock the car with the remote. If you haven't heard it I would suggest that a previous owner may have put an aftermarket radio in and sorted the mod to isolate the anti theft connection.

I do get a beep from the horn but I thought
this was to let you know the alarm is armed.

All the alarm does is pip to show it's armed. If the horn is giving 1 beep it is to tell you that something that should be closed...isn't or the radio security is not correct. A common reason for the horn to beep is leaving the centre arm rest cover open.

If you have a look on Renntech then you will find the fix for the radio anti theft.

HM,

A beep is happening because the alarm thinks the radio is being stolen and (from what I've read) means it isn't alarmed. e.g. same as leaving the door open.

If you take the radio out, you'll see about half way down the left hand side of the aperature, a little sprung metal contact. If this touches the side of the radio on the metal it triggers the alarm. So on the original radio, there is an insulating bit of plastic at that point. Hence if someone pulls the radio out whilst alarmed, the contact will touch the metal and set the alarm off.

You can either, as I did, put some insulating tape on the new Becker in the right place - so that the radio alarm will still function, or disable the metal contact, which will disable that function completely.
