Had a little blat with an ST3 today. Came off a roundabout behind him and he floored it, so I did. He wasn't going anywhere but I've got to say I wasn't making up any ground. I just googled them and it's a 0 - 62 of 6.8 seconds. I'm in a 997S which is supposed to be what, 4.8 secs? Can I be that bad a driver?

He might have been heavily modified (very easy with that 5-cyl turbo engine) and in-gear acceleration could be pretty closely matched.

Yeah makes sense. Think it's time to order the Turbo. I've been putting it off waiting for the flappy gearbox to be announced but it seems pretty quiet on that front. I'm not a racer at all but I really do want something that I don't have to worry about suped up Scoobies and ST's walking all over!

You must be 'that bad a driver' ;-)
I drag-raced a 997S on test track recently and its not much slower than my 964 turbo, and I can anihilate an ST.
....or maybe its the turbo torque mid range that had you.

It's almost impossible to compare performance on the public road. There's rarely sufficient space, it's too dangerous (not to mention illegal) and there's always the consequences of 'red mist'. On a track or drag strip, the 997 should see off an ST3 without too much difficulty (driver skill permitting).

300bhp from an ST is very easy to achieve and when your on the move the fwd/rwd difference won't be really that much.

I had an ST3 previous to my current car, and it really was a swift machine [though not like a 997 in standard spec].
