Got to agree with Vesuvius here - why take the risk? Especially given the amount of rain we've had in the past couple of weeks.
I recently had Michelin Pilot Sports all round. I had about 2.5 - 3mm left at time of replacing and the difference in the wet is night and day. From now on, I'll replace at 3mm every time.

I have 3 mm tread reamining on both front tyres. Should I get replaced now or wait for 2mm?
£70k car. Scrimping on tyres when it's been monsoon time...?Are you sure mate?!
Bracknell Tyres. £500 a set for PZero N2
I realise that driving around in wet weather at the legal minimum is not good but changing them at 3mm sounds unnecessary to me...

I occasionally run at high leptons, and if I hot some standing water those four small patches of rubber are all that's between me and oblivion.
£500 for shiny new tyres, or £1000 excess plus massive insurance premiums for the next five years plus possible getting mangled?

The best course of action is to drive according to the conditions !
If you're tyres are half worn - then in the wet, drive like they are half worn... simple.
If the road has a huge amount of standing water - than no tyre, new or not, is going to make it any safer - slow down ...
All IMO ...
