Following a couple of overzealous takeoffs at VMax against an F430, my 16k miles 996TT (Turbo S/X50) appears in need of a new clutch. Thought I'd got away with in on the day, but definite slippage when I dropped from 6th to 4th on the motorway this morning :-(

So - can anyone advise on the likely price difference between an OPC and an Indy to replace the clutch. Anything else I should be on the look-out for while getting this done (esp. following Vmax) ?

So that was your clutch I could smell :-)

Indy will be about £1400, OPC probably £2k+. Tognola and Northway are both close to you.

My recently purchased RaceLogic PerformanceBox gave an early indication of a 4.4s 0-60 time, which I was trying to best... biggrin Perhaps an ECU remap before the next VMax ain't such a good idea after all.... spin

For the benefit of other interested parties:
Northway quote around £1200 - based upon 7.5hrs work
OPC Reading £2600 - based upon 13.5hrs work

Still waiting for Chiswick to quote to see how many hours it will take them biggrin Hey, at least I get to use my PCGB 10% discount at an OPC..

<edited>
This thread may explain the difference in timing (engine out vs not)

Craig - I am pretty sure it's engine out job full stop on a 996TT for a clutch. The difference in timing is probably more likely to be explained by the OPC talking sh*t and the indy being honest. All IMHO.

My mechanic took 5 hrs to do the GT3 clutch. Bits cost me just shy of £600. Engine needed dropping a little - but it wasn't an engine out job. Not sure if the TT is though.

hi

996TT is not an engine out job even the dealers dont take the engine out...but they charge you for it!

996TT clutch replacement from me is £1150 incl vat.

Definitely NOT engine out. Suggest going with a performance clutch for long life. I have a "Stage 4" ceramic/kevlar GT3RS clutch kit with lightweight flywheel going in in a few weeks. Highly recommend talking to Stephen at http://www.imagineauto.com. Tell him Jim sent you - he's about the most knowledgable P-car guy out there and will set you up with exactly what you need.

Good luck!

I can vouch for Northway. Replaced the clutch on my Box S (admittedly, not a 996TT!) for about £700 all in. Good standard of workmanship & always very professional & honest

Mike - is a 996 GT2 clutch the same as a TT and is it the same cost?

Cheers
