Ring weekender
Discussion
Just got back on tuesday from a 100% dry weekend at the ring , fridays evening session was great as was saturday and sunday (once all the bikers had moved out of the way , well , most of them)
It was actually the first time i had taken the RS on track so it took me a good 5 laps to get into it and wow , what a car. The Parr stage 1 & cup set up worked perfecly. I'm so happy with the car after a few doubts over it in the last few weeks.
Unfortunatley i saw 2 GT3 write off's , one Uk, well , it looked a write off.
Respect to the locals there too , theres quick out there then theres QUICK!
No pics from me but someone snapped me.
Off again in 3 weeks , love it.

Great place for your GT3RS but please give the bikers a break! I'm miles faster on my bike than I am in my 996 (8:15 btg). Bikes have every right to be there and many (including me) would argue that it (biking) is spoiled by the numerous cars dumping coolant and oil all over the track that makes it too dangerous to enjoy on a bike. Mutual respect all round is what is needed.

Well as I was there with Paul, I can vouch for the fact that there were some bikers who lacked respect for the place. Seems to be the less experienced ones who feel that an 8 minute lap is quite easy after 3 or 4 laps of practice after reading an issue of Performance Bike. I followed a few bikers who didnt see me for maybe 1km or more .... they seemed more interested in getting their knees down for the first time rather than checking their mirrors.
As an ex biker myself, I know how exposed you can be, so I choose not to get too close or overtake a bike until the biker has made some sort of signal for me to pass. The more experienced bikers always move off the line when safe and brake ... or they approach me at light speed and I move off the line and brake as soon as possible.
The number of bike related accidents at the weekend was frightening. I know there are issues with coolant and oil from bikes and cars but a lot of bikers think that they're Rossi which spoils it for everyone else. Seeing the speed of the more experienced bikers around there astounds me ... standing at Bergwerk and watching them power out knee down and leaving a black line was an awesome sight!

Like this you mean (i was very hungover in the back on a freebie lap with sabine)http://www.ringology.net/bunny-mov/joerund.wmv
very sadly Joerund died that afternoon on a fluid spill at P3.
As a completely crap ex ring biker I agree... watching the good bikers round there is amazing. very brave or very stupid.

I was there this weekend too. And the bikers weren't as bad as I've seen them there. Worst traffic was a Ferrari 360 (silver spyder) and a red corvette. neither of which had rear view mirrors. Last 1/4 of a lap the ferrari held me up, and only got past the corvette as he overcooked it into adenauer forst and went onto the grass.
Respect to you Paul though, for getting out of the way of my S2000
It was early on in the weekend, so I'm guessing it was a familiarisation lap.
and there were 3 GT3 write offs.
The guy at Brunnchen didn't even know he had an accident. So a word of warning to you all. Make sure you wear a helmet, especially people with a rollcage.

I did the Ring for the first time 2 weeks ago on my BMW R1150GS, not the ideal track bike, but still good fun. I was the slowest thing out there, kept t the right and used my mirrors. Being passed on the inside and/or outside by bikers with their knee on the ground, sparks flying off the slider, was a real eye opener. Some of the 997 RSs were very quick as was the Ring Taxi, as well as some quite prosaic cars; Golf GTis, Peugeots of various sizes and a little blue Minivan "powered by Honda". I will be back next year with my 911.
