996 aerokit sideskirts - check yours
Discussion
I've always had a concern about the sideskirts on the 996 as they are very flush fitting and there may be a risk of abrading the paint / traping grit and moisture.
Anyway - as a precaution I decided to remove mine and have a look.
Sure enough...just along the line where the sideskirt sits flush...

....small pinholes in the paint where the skirt is tight up and then water appears to have got in and corroded the galv. forming a couple of scabs.
Will be taking it into Porsche, as I'm not particularly happy that my 996 has a couple of rust spots, when my 1988 930 has none!!
Worth looking at yours IMHO.
ps - one of the skirts had been stuck on with Sikaflex (or a similar polyurethane adhesive) at the rear edge (fortunately not the whole length) and was an absolute PIG to remove. It literaly has taken me 6 hours to get the adhesive off the body tonight, with heat, patience and some white spirit! Hopefully most cars will be done with the original foam tape, which is very easy to separate and should save time.
I will be replacing mine with thicker foam tape, so as to keep a gap from the body.
Cheers
