I've been the (very proud) owner of a 2004 Model Year C4S Cabriolet for the past few days. Thoroughly enjoying it so far and it feels like a quantum leap forward from my old 1998 Carrera 2.

I do have one niggle. The car has PCM2 with the phone module. I've inserted the SIM card and the module has no difficulty obtaining the network, etc. I can also place and receive telephone calls.

My difficulty is that the built in microphone in the car seems to be working very poorly. People either can't hear me when I speak or, if I shout very loudly at the microphone shout (attracting curious looks from other road users!), they can hear me very faintly.

Is there any easy way of improving the microphone's sensitivity/pick up? I know from this and other forums that people don't think the Porsche phone is a fantastic system but I can't believe it's THIS bad.

I've searched the archives but can't find anything relating to this; any thoughts or suggestions would be most gratefully received.

Regards,

Mark

i have the pcm2 set up in my system and use the hands free alot

i find mine works perfectly and i never need shout

perhaps the microphone itself is on its way out?

maybe worth removing its plastic cover and seeing if any dust or shit has been caught up which may be effecting its performance

Thanks for the suggestion, Wetwipe.

I should have said I did remove the plastic cover and can't see anything that might be interfering with the microphone operation.

As you say, it may just be that the mike is on the way out.

Thanks,

Mark

My OPC salesman advised me against speccing it recently due to poor quality of the system. He also advised me they have actually fitted FOC an aftermarket system on some new cars due to this problem which they can't fix.
However I went for it anyway, and have found it works fine occasionally , but mostly people can't hear me very well. I can't pin it down to any particular network or signal strength, it just seems very inconsistent.

Seems odd, doesn't it?

You'd think the microphone was the simplest part of the system to get right, and clearly Wetwipe isn't having any problems with his system.

Presumably, if the microphone isn't working well/at all for the phone, that means the AudioPilot will also be out of action?

It does seem odd as you say, it can't be rocket science.
I do remember the salesman saying the older systems with the mic beside the sun visor works fine, but since they moved it to the steering column it has been poor - is this where yours is ??

Yep, top of steering column.
