996TT track day tweaks

I’ve recently completed my first track day in my 996TT at Brands Hatch and everything went very well.
I was just wondering what changes, if any, fellow 996TT owners have made to their cars to make them better for track days without making them unbearable for everyday road use.

One thing related I have noticed,,is driving my 968 Clubsport the thicker RS steering wheel is a joy to use.When I get back into the 996 which has the same steering wheel as the 996TT,it feels a bit thin and maybe a criticism that I never really realised before.
I would look into the new thicker 3 spoke wheel that Porsche are offering as an option on the new GT3.
Personally I think this would make a great and sensible addition to enhance track day fun.

I have just had new rotors and pads fitted. For the moment all standard, although I may have to do a little research in that area, as Bruntingthorpe Vmax sessions have a habit of cracking the rotors. I have never had a problem with standard brakes at the Ring, even when doing 3 laps (39 miles) in rapid succession. Just remember to have a cool down drive before parking up. Out of habit I leave the engine running for the turbos to cool even though 996tt have an automatic system that cuts in if the turbos need cooling. I also don't use the handbrake, but I've been told this is unnecessary as the handbrake doesn't use the pads.
No work needed on suspension, just make sure you try driving beyond traction so you can play with the PSM etc when safe.

It was great - you must do one. I'm off to Goodwood on July 5th for another go!
Once I'd had a bit of tuition nothing in my group (beginner) could stay with it and that included some seriously modified Skylines, Caterhams, TVRs, etc.
Brakes are the main worry but held up fine. Brakes felt a bit soft on the road for a few days afterwards but seem ok now.
BUT, get insurance. It wouldn't have been fun without knowing that I was insured. There were some real idiots on the track, one of whom should have been sent home very early and was black flagged during his last session (a bit late really!)

Glad to hear that you upheld the Turbo's reputation, good on you. I do fancy having a go at this, but worry about damaging the beasty !!
Thanks for the tip on insurance, whilst visiting an OPC recently the guy's showed me a GT2 that had been stuffed into a gravel trap (didn't even hit the tyre wall apparently)it got shredded & cost the guy around £12,000 & he didn't have insurance OUCH !!

Grant. An insurance brokers called Performance Marques does annual insurance policies that include fully comprehensive cover whilst driving on Porsche Club GB trackdays. If this is something you are interested in email me and I'll send you the contact details. Otherwise they advertise in both 911 & PW and the Porsche Club GB monthly magazine.
