My dads decided to sell his 2006 Boxster S which has a massive spec on it, just looking for ideas for the best place to advertise the car?

Obviously theirs this site but any others someone may recommend?

Thanks in advance.

You'll get a cracking price from the OPC against a new 997TT... hehe

Pistonheads & Autotrader reach a good audience, however do not underestimate ebay as the audience is huge and may well just tempt someone looking to do a private deal. wink

In all seriousness..... I sold my 2000 2.7 Boxster on ebay when it was about 2 yrs old and got more for it than I had it advertsied for on autotrader.

Got stung on subsequent 3.2 cab though so it evened out in the end!

Definately into cars however never had anything this sort of price to sell on, just curious to see if their were any Porsche advertising sites or the like.

Sold alot through E-bay however it is definately hit and miss, gain on some lose on others. Will get it up for sale on here and trader first off.

Trading in for a 997TT would be nice! However need the space for the next few months hence the car has to go, shame as its a great drive, ceramic brakes are immense!

You have ceramics on a boxster? God, did the sales guy say that may be a waste of money?

My car is for sale but its only advertised on here. That way its likely to go to a car enthusiast and secondly i dont really want to sell it. wink

The car was bought as a Demo vehicle the same as the previous Boxster however its got basically everything on it, think the original on the road price was something stupid like £57k. The ceramics are too good for road use, but nice to have either way!

So (approx) how much is it going up for then?

errr hummmm,,,,,,,, iv been practising for this!!!!! hehe

Its been sitting most of its life in an under ground car park in the city. I havent got on as many track days as id have liked and thats why i bought it really and with this weather cant see many happening for me. When it is at home i usually take my 4x4 as its easier to drive, i have to do a 3 point turn down my road which is one way to get it onto the drive as the fronts so low. Its not really a car for knocking about in. If i drive on the motorway i feel like its wasted! No nice flowing roads in sw London!

I hate to admit it but if i had a turbo it might get used a lot more. shout Kayc, I should have a cheaper car if its only going to get used for track.

Dont get me going on that one again..tt for the road,gt3 for the track..depending on what you do most should decide which car to buy.997gt3 does look really nice compared to the 997tt however imo.

Completely agree about the cheaper car thing, although I'm keeping the GT3. The cheaper car is for the ring and when I can't insure the RS or don't fancy driving it.

An e36 m3 trackcar is the way forwards. Quite a few of us have them now including me, Timbo, Steve Rance etc...

Dan,

What mods have you had to do to it?

Dan,

I bought one pre-modded to a fairly extreme level. 20k+ of work (on a 5.5k car!).

Tim's is an ex-Black Falcon race car (German team that race BMWs at the ring).

Steve's is an M3 GT he's having prepared by Thorney motorsport.

I reckon to prepare one to a decent spec will cost approx 10k. The 20k on mine was because it has things like the dash taken out and replaced with a digital race one, and the 3 way adjustable dampers, plastic boot + bonnet + bumpers etc.

My spec is :

stripped (including no heater/fans)
welded in cage
carbon rear wing
fibreglass bonnet, boot, bumpers
Digidash Pro 2 (datalogger/dash)
AST 3 way adjustable remote reservoir dampers
adjustable camber arms, top mounts
new bushings all round
stoptech 4 pot callipers front, new m3 rear callipers
braided lines
bbs 17" alloys
short shift kit
bucket seat (needs upgrading and another bought)
harnesses (as above - only 4 point)
new exhaust
200 cell race cats
chipped
carbon airbox
sunroof cassette removed and replaced with RalloY plate.
carbon doorcards
currently dash scuttle removed, but will refit
sparco steering wheel
heated front screen
lightened mirrors
(probably more I've forgotten)

Should make about 300 bhp with the chip+filter+exhaust. The main thing is that it will also be relatively cheap to repair compared to a GT3 and with a little extra work could be raced. It should also be quick enough to be fun. Only downer on the one I have is that its a saloon, not the better looking coupe. On the plus side that makes the shell more rigid (although a welded in cage probably makes that fairly irrelevent) and alledgedly they are lighter. Also easier to work in the back of the car with doors.

I got very lucky finding a pre-prepared car as it saved me a fortune over the DIY route. If you do go down this road be careful about cars where the owner has spent loads on the engine, but cut corners on the important things like cage/dampers/brakes. I saw a lot of cars advertised with engine bays full of carbon but cheap dampers etc...

Or maybe look at an Elise/Caterham. I fancied something different having done the Elise and think m3s are great (especially for the ring). Certainly not the only choice though. I haven't actually collected my car yet as having some stuff finished off on it. I'm intrigued to see what it weighs with all that work done.

It would have been better if id said:

Once i move i think ill get a caterham, i dont know anything about the mechanics of a car and a caterham will work for me straight out of the box. I had a cs before but really didnt like the lack of power down the straights.

Whats a CS? An m3 CS? The m3s I'm talking about are from the previous generation to the CS.

You are right. The car is fairly comprehensively modded wink
