I noticed that my offside front tyre is rubbing the inside rear part of the wheel arch when i apply full lock to the right. im convinced this is not good. any thoughts? cheers

You may have 17" wheels on a car supplied with the smaller (and marginally narrower) 16" wheels. There's a mod to the steering arm to restrict full lock on the later cars.

im running standard cup alloys on a 91 964... its something which has only recently started so im thinking that perhaps some ball / bush / rod is wearing allowing me to get more lock on than normal?

On 17" wheels on later models the steering stop went from 6mm to 10mm to stop this happening.

If it's recent, then that's a different matter...

Have you changed front tyres? Some are wider than others...

Tyres not been replaced. Very odd. Fact that the problem has only recently started is the thing which confuses me.

Definitely worth getting it looked at then; something has changed under there which could obviously be dangerous...

Could be:

Rack fault (unlikely)

Bottom ball joint/caster adjuster moving (possible and easy fix just check if allen bolt is tight 12mm allen key)

Wishbone bush collapsed (possible on 964, use pry bar to test)

Wheel bearing?

Basically get the car up on a jack and give the wheel a good waggle see if there is any play, if so that will be the problem, if not then you need to start looking a bit closer. Are you sure it has only started doing it?

Good call. Yep pretty sure it's just started. This weekend I noticed that my onside front is doing the same too.

Front wishbones aint the best. But as mentioned previously the lock stops are thicker on later cars to prevent this.

I had exactly the same problem with 17" Cup 1 wheels. Ray Northway fitted steering rack spacers, sorted the probelm out.
