Porsche wheel spacers
Discussion
I have noticed that this option exists...
but can someone explain to me why porsche offer this option. every other manufacturer seems to be happy enough to sell their cars with what they think is the best compromise in terms of track and geometry... what do you gain and lose by going down this route of fitting spaces onto your (generally) watercooled porsche?

they look better, provide a wider track for the car and lower the CofG slightly.
All adds up to a better cornering car.
Many things in life are built to a comprimise.... but its WHAT comprimise you are willing to accept.
Tires are a comprimise between grip, noise and long life etc, most tires will go for something nicely in the middle....
Track tires favour grip over life....
and so it is with car set ups... they leave the factory nicely set up for some fast commuting... but it dont take much to change the comprimise to faster driving.

...but you must surely have to get the geometry sorted because the geometry it comes with is meant for a narrower track..? otherwise you'll be getting uneven tyre wear..All adds up to a better cornering car.

also. a GT3 doesn't (just(?)) have different wheel offsets does it? they have different length suspension arms and than is surely what gives them superior handling (combined with better tyres and springs/dampers)...
Ideally yes you'd alter all the geometry to more suit the extra width and have it more akin to going fast and not just going shopping.
GT3s have a whole different comprimise and therefore different parts.
I got 6mm spacers on the front of my 944, which only works out at 5mm difference cos the Boxster wheels have a 1mm different offset, but even that makes a difference when shoving it in hard to a bend.
edited due to wierd formatting making it unclear who said what

good we're all reading from the same page etc!GT3s have a whole different comprimise and therefore different parts.

it just surprises me that no one else (openly) offers this. i guess nobody, except perhaps BMW, appeals to such a brad audience...
