I have a 1997 LHD 2.5 liter boxster, done 260.000 km with it, no problems at all. No mechanical breakdowns. It's an excellent car. could use some more horses, thyat's why I am considering to have it rebuild by RUF using a 3.4 or 3.6 engine.

Mind you as goes for all Poresches, makes sure you get one with a full service history. And it should be serviced in a proper Porsche Center.

Good luck, it sure is a fun car

Boxsters are great cars, but I am led to beleive the early cars are not built quite so well.I guess this didn't matter as Porsche couldn't make them quick enough and for the first year or so fashion conscious buyers were paying a premium to be seen.
There were problems with engine main seals, but these should have been fixed under warranty by now.
The early build thing is a factor, cars with creaky plastic dashboards are a no go.
I know of a couple of specialists who steer clear of selling these cars for quality reasons.
There are many threads documenting what to look for in a Boxster,,The cars are very solid but the specification or neccesary additional equipment required is probably the major factor determining a purchase.Ideally buy the newest, full service history car your budget will allow.
