Can the GT2 be worth 30k over the standard car. I have a 997T. With a GT2 on order. The standard car is so good, just can not see how it can be improved up on.
R5
More powerR5
Less weight
2wd
Better aero
200mph
....and one for the posers:
Hardly any coming in to the Country
That'll do for starters.
The GT2 will far out class the TT on the track no doubt, that is more than enough reason to have one
Why would you buy a GT2 only for the road, now that would be a bit silly!

There are only 2 reasons I would personally remotely buy into for buying the GT2 over the TT:
1. You are wealthy enough to buy something that puts you in the "he's got one of those" lifestyle bracket. (not knocking it by the way if that's your reason)
2. You want a 130 grand track car. (as above)
People who bang on about the fact it's better than the 4wd version because it's 2wd, faster, got a bigger c*ck etc, all whilst refering to UK roads and conditions are deluded IMO. In fact, if anyone thinks the GT2 is necessary to have in everyday UK conditions because the TT isn't hardcore or fast enough is either to good a driver to be spending their time chitty chatting on here, or shouldn't be on the public roads in the first place.
The GT2 is a track day car for 'purists' or alternatively, people who think they are.
So, 0.002 pennies: A GT2 is not worth 30+k more than the TT. (caveat: IN THE REAL WORLD)
Can't comment on the 997 GT2 but I've found my 996 GT2 better in spades than the 996 turbo before it (and that was a manual!). Just the turn in response alone hits you first, and that's before the breathtakingly faster acceleration and brutalness of the whole thing. I certainly find plenty of UK roads where I can extend it a bit and I'm no driving god by any means. The turbo is/was great in a point and shoot sort of a way, if you want to go really fast without putting any effort into it, and that's why the slushbox option was so popular, but the GT2 is just on another level of involvement and I find pays me back in many more ways. I don't think on imperfect or damp roads I could keep up with myself driving the turbo as yet, but I reckon as I learn more about it it won't be long.1. 30k though? Hmmm, hard one that. I'm tempted to say that if I had 100k burning a hole in my pocket I'd finance that extra 30k and go GT2. But being a poor 996 driver, I don't

Because I find it more exciting to drive than a TT on the road. I like vehicles that feel a little 'edgy'.www.seanedwards.eu
Why am i getting one. Because i can....... simple as that....what my point is that you will have to be stig to get the bit extra out of the GT2.
Any one with even little skill can extract 7-8 tenths out of the TT.With the GT2 i doubt if they will even get 3-10s. That is my point that the 997T is so good it makes the GT2 void in my view. But i will still be getting one.

If I were in the market, I would be wanting one for reasons exactly 180 degrees outta phase with yours. I would absolutely relish the chance to hunt down thoses tenths on the GT2 through track experience and tuition. Which would make it a valid proposition to me.
Good luck with it. When have they said you order will be here?
It'll be good to see how it compares with your LP and TT.

Sure, why not if you have the money too, really lovely car. That is not true, with good instruction or being a decent enough driver to begin with you can extract quite a bit more time round the track (btw the stig is not amazingly fast as a racing driver, for the people that know who he is!) in the GT2.Any one with even little skill can extract 7-8 tenths out of the TT.With the GT2 i doubt if they will even get 3-10s. Again not true, when I do demo laps to my customers in their TT's, I drive about 8 tenths, obviously not wanting to risk anything in their cars, but that is still a lot faster then they were going. Most people will be around 3 tenths to start with in most car and with experience or good instruction can get up to about 6 tenths, there after only a lot of time testing and developing your skills will get you any further, providing you have a talent to begin with of course.
Agree with the GT2 being a lot harder to drive/master though, as the TT with it's 4wd and lots of electronic, you can't do too much wrong, but you still need to know what your doing to do a decent time in it.
30 Track Days a year, that is a serious amount. Mika is a nice guy, very good driver, didn't know he did tuition actually. He will be a compeditior at Spa this year, look forward to racing against him!
