Picking up an 04 996 gt3 rs later this week.

I need to fit a set of tyres and have no idea what to go for.... any advice would be welcome...on the tyres or in general.

Thanks.

Business partner Marc is currently running R888's on his red 996GT3RS and prefers them to the previous Pirelli Corsa's, so if you need fronts to match Sambaman's rears let me know as we are an approved stockist - contact Peter in the office if you want prices, we'll do a good deal for fellow Pistonheaders.

Assuming you want to go for R compound (trackday) tyres, your choices are:

Pirelli Corsa System
Pirelli Corsa (Motorsport)
Toyo R888
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup

The Corsa System is the OEM tyre for the car. Fantastic all rounder. Brilliant on road and track, wet and dry. Very consistent. Wear rate is good too considering the grip on offer. Reasonable price.
Motorsport Corsa. Touch more dry grip, less wet grip. Slightly more noise. Otherwise the same as above.
Toyo is much less expensive. Good grip but less consistent in many folks opinion. Otherwise similar to Motorsport Corsa.
MPS Cup is the ultimate dry track tyre. Mega grip levels close to a slick. Very positive steering response. Super consistent. Utterly addictive. Downsides - not great in the wet. Terrible in heavy rain/standing water. High wear rate. High cost.

All of these tyres will benefit from a bit of camber. Speak to JZ Machtech or Parr and they will advise accordingly.

The car is incredible but I guess you knew that already. If you haven't already get yourself booked on a trackday and take lessons from a professional instructor. Also come and talk to the GT3/RS owners and ask them to take you out for hot laps. When you see the car driven to its limits you will be blown away!
