Help with buying a boxster
Discussion
£15k would stretch to a reasonable 2.7, or a slightly shappy / early 3.2s. As you will be buying a pre-facelift car, check the plastic rear screen, as this can degrade & split if not folded correctly. You may get a lot of help from www.boxa.net.
Main thing to look for is the RMS (Rear Main Seal between engine & gearbox). This is can be a recurrent problem on many Porsches. If this is leaking, a replacement is about £800ish. Brakes aren't cheap to renew (I just did mine on an 03 Box S & it about £1k at an independant specialist - god knows how much OPC would have asked for the job).
Usual good practice will generally net you a good car (evidence of regular servicing either at OPC or recognised Indy), inspection may be worthwhile as is an OPC warrantly for complete peace of mind.
Having said that, I went through all the due diligence I could & still the clutch let go about about a month after I got the car (£700 to fix) & then a wheel bearing went (£200 ish to fix).
Having said that, they are pretty bullet proof, so use good judgement & try to get an AA / independent inspection.
The websites below are pretty well respected & often have cars in at all budgets:

Richie, I'd go for a 3.2S as it's considerably quicker in real world situations (e.g. overtaking, etc). Nice options if you can find include the Bose stereo which is superb and the built in SatNav/telephone unit which is excellent and in my humble opinion gives the interior a superior look/finish.
There are quite a few untidy examples out there - from memory I looked at 6 cars before finding mine. The others had issues ranging fom shabby hoods to corrosion on the alloys. I was a happy man when I found the car I bought so its worth searching for the perfect car for you!
I've enjoyed every minute of owning mine but now its time to move on. 2 new tyres went on the rear last weekend, new brake discs and pads all round last month and going in for a front respray to get rid of the usual stone chips in the next 2 weeks means that mine will be a perfect example for someone when I put it in the classifieds next month - just need to make sure it goes to a good home now!
To give you a guide on Boxster prices, mine is a 2002 3.2S (with PSM, SatNav, Phone module, Bose steroe) which has now covered 62k miles and I'll be putting it on for just over £16k for a reasonably quick sale.
Hope this helps,
Rich

Not a general issue. Just the geo needs to be set up again properly. Test drive the 2.7 and 3.2 back to back. I'm sure you don't want to settle for a 2.7 after thatOne of the 2.7's I looked at today had bald tyres on the inside and nearly new on the outside is this common???
