Dear Wise Porsche People,

I've been offered a 1997 993 in Arctic Silver with 27k miles and FSH from the supplying dealer for £27,000 - is this as good a deal as I think it is? It also has 18" turbo alloys and metropole blue sports seats.

If it is a good deal, how should I go about getting it inspected? I assume I need an inspection, but from who?

Thanks,

Giles

sounds a good deal to me,,,look at it first to see anything obviou,,,evidence of poorly repaired accident damage or mismatching paint, check service history and hpi...then pay a decent Porsche specialist to give it the once over....depends where you or the car is to decide which one.
Independent specialist are usually better than Porsche main dealer on older cars as Porsche multipoint checkover doesn't really go into enough detail and rac/aa will more than likely use the same check over list as they use for a Micra...good luck.

Thanks CS - I was intending to use Peter Morgan as I've heard good things about his service and the inspector would have to travel to the inspectee.

If it's all straight then I think it sounds good too. Is Arctic Silver a good colour for resale?

PM, has a good reputation...silver is fine for re-sale, but obviously condition comensurate with the stated mileage will be more important as far as future re-sale is concerned....why would you ever sell it? wink

Quite, but you never know what the future holds(perhaps a 575 Superamerica...)

Thanks again for the thoughts - will let you know how I get on.

Giles, if its that good for that mileage and the inspection checks out all ok and the price is right, I will make you a promise; if you get bored give me a call and I will pop round and make sure the bad old car doesnt ever bother you again.

..and lots of people have issues with blue interiors too so that won't help the resale value....

Sounds too cheap to me.
Get it inspected, if it's a good one don't let it get away.

Saw an immaculate low mileage C2 (27k miles?) retailed by Nutley cars for £35k. So, it sounds like a good price.. Dont get too anal about interior colours etc. Good 993s are becoming scarce.

It does sound a little bit too good to be true. I'm sure there is a story to go with the car otherwise it's a bargain.

Did you read the Top Gear review of the 575 Superamerica? 'Flip-Flop' it was headed. Think long and hard before you do that.

I think with a nice 993 issues of colour and trim are a lot less relevant. It wouldn't stop me I can tell you.

Metropole blue is fine. Certainly wasn't an issue for any specialist or otherwise looking at valuing my 993.

I'm a tad surprised you lot think there might be sumat wrong with this car at this price.. I think it's priced just about spot on ... Paying over £30k for a non 'S' would be insanity.
Sure they're a great car , great looker and all that , but they ain't increasing in value (even if they are constantly being talked up ...)

Bally - it's the mileage vs the price that's making me question it, i'd be less suspicious if it was up at £29k. Have you been mulling, haven't heard from you in a while wink

Sadly there's absolutely no chance of me getting a 575 SA - I just rather like them.

Pleased that the general consensus is so favourable for the car - Gordon Wingrove of PMC is going over the car today and will give his opinion this afternoon so I shall let you all know what the result is.

Planning to get it serviced at Tognola Engineering - any thoughts? I've heard they're very good.

Also planning on fitting xenons and the "RSR" muffler from www.carnewal.com. Has anyone got this? I've hjeard one and it sounds fantastic at full chat but a little worried about motorway blare.

Giles

Funny your should say that, VerySideways; is was on at £29k and I offered £27k... Good knowledge.
