why do porsche offer the turbo wheels for the 997 turbo on the whole range? i would have thought you would want abit more individuality if you were buying such an expensive model.

Better rims are a cost option upgrade on just about any type of car I can think of. Porsches are expensive cars to begin with; so you might have spent 60k on your new 997, but just because you dont have the budget for the extra 40k for the fully pumped porka doesnt mean that a few grand for new wheels is out of your range. If youre driving a 997 with turbo rims, turbo or not, i will still look twice!
BTW I saw a fantastic looking '07 reg all black GT3 with black alloys at Vauxhall Cross at around 11am today. I havent seen one before and this car was debadged so i wasnt sure if it was the real deal, but the car had the centre pipes and that fat old biplane spoiler. Didnt get the reg tho - asked my girlfriend but she was too busy drooling and could only form single vowel words ("WORK MORE GET ONE!&quotwink
I was at the lights at the end of Wandsworth road and he piled out of Nine Elms lane and onto the roundabout just as the lights changed for me - I gave chase in my 993 targa and caught him with consummate ease - because he had slowed for the speed cam outside MI6 - then he was off over Backfriars and gaawn.

It does stand out for the non turbo porsches; its a turbo, its got a fat arse with fat side vents and a fat turbo decal on the back.

Have to say tho, M3 drivers have that 'exclusivity', and the hubs and hence wheel offsets are different so you can't just buy a set and fit them to your mere mortal ordinary 3-series. However, where there's a market there's a supplier... Replica M3 alloys with the correct widths and offsets for your mere mortal 3-series....

So better to have genuine Turbo wheels that fit than replica's... and more money in Porsche's coffers... you oays your money... you gets the choice...

Plus if you can afford the turbo, you can afford any wheel on the planet... and there's some fantastic 3-piece rims out there....

Happy to say I'm a TVR T350 driver myself cloud9 - definitely not an executive car!

I've been looking at the spec for new 997. Hopefully it will be an S (despite the fact the OPC told me I won't need anymore than a C2! He must know my abilities!), if not it will be a standard C2.

My thinking is that the C2S has such a great basic level of spec that it may be wiser to go for it and have most the extras included. This leaves the colour and the wheels.

In my book the wheels and colour really make a car. I'm stuck between Black and Cobalt Blue, but I was always going to go for the 19" Carrera S wheel. That was until I realised that the Turbo wheels are actually an option. And even better than that, they're only £555. Am I wrong in thinking that this is really cheap for a great rim? I just specc'd a Cayenne for the wife and her wheels are costing £2,500 extra. Seem's an awful lot more for just an extra inch (ahem, wife now laughing!?!?!?). I think I can understand a Turbo buyer being a bit peeve'd, but hey, I don't make the rules!

I love these wheels, but speaking to the dealer about putting them on a different 997 he warned me that if they're kerbed they can't be fixed (or whatever they do when they get banged). Kinda put me off as I'm shit at parking.

Dont worry about kerbing them too much - just be careful when you park! As for whether you should go for these, I was very close to speccing my 997S with these but decided to stick with the standard alloys. I now really like the look of the standard alloys and besides didn't want to look like a Turbo wannabe - although boy would I still love a turbo. Just spec it up with whatever floats your boat as it were.

There is a Boxster S in the OPC Guildford with 997 Turbo alloys on it. Doesn't look quite right if I am honest.

JohnV - go Cobalt Blue / Ocean blue interior - with the red calipers on the C2S it looks fantastic. Yeah, guess which colour mine is :-)

But not the turbo wheels - for what it's worth I think it looks a little silly on a non-turbo car. A real petrolhead will know that you went for them and I bet your car driving friends will good naturedly pull your leg.

Oh, and go for the Bose as well - weapons grade hi-fi!!!

Thanks JohnG1, I hadn't thought of the Ocean Blue interior. I had a look at a few pics of ones for sale and it's a good combo with the Colbalt blue. My other two P's have been black, so time to live a little! Still not sure about the wheels, I do think the Turbo wheels look the business. They are a beautiful wheel. Hope that doesn't offend too many Turbo drivers that think a lowly 997 C2 or C2S aren't worthy?

you are wrong in thinking they are a great rim IMHO - 997tt wheels are the chavvest most overstyled wheels Porsche has ever produced eek

(£555 is surprisingly cheap though)

...agreed - when the 997tt first came out I immediately thought that the wheels were very 'Max power' from a Halfords outlet.

John V - you clearly really like the wheels - go for it, its your car and there's no point spending that type of cash and then have a regret over a £550 option!
