After topping up the Pentosin level (it was on minimum after a service) it seems to be drinking the stuff at a rate of about an espresso cup full every 1000 miles or so.

I can only assume it's weeping out from somewhere. Power steering is operating fine, no drips on the floor (although perhaps it's dripping onto the undertray.)

Anyone experienced similar (and any ideas what it might be other than a leaky PS Pump or junction on a pipe...)

You are turning the engine off and then pumping the clutch 20 times BEFORE checking it aren't you?

Failing that, my dick had a leak but only when a pipe was twisted with the engine running.

Have a gentle fondle (sorry feel) of the boots at either end of the steering rack, if you can feel fluid in them all may not be as well with the power steering as you think....

Hmmm, still sounds like the rack. Check the boots as per Slippy's post. Should leave some mess on the floor though ?

I had a similar issue on my 993 few weeks ago.
It was leaking only when I was driving
It could have been a pipe but in my case it was the Rack, I got it replaced for £1000 all fitted...

Hmm. Odd. There's nothing on the floor at all.... and it is only an egg cup full. I'd expect to see it dumped all over the garage. I'll just keep and eye on it I think and see what happens - it certainly drives fine.

V, if the seals have failed in the rack itself, the fluid can pass into the rack gaiters, you won't see anything on the floor and the power steering will function perfectly still.

check the filler neck is nicely locked onto the pump housing (remove it and clean/replace the seals) - you won't see any fluid on the drive as it drips nicely into compartments on the engine which catch it and then gets burnt off - ask me how I know lol..

Ah HAAAAAAAAA!

That might be it. It feels a bit wobbly since I had the belt tensioners done!!

Tell me, how does the housing come off - is it just a push on job??

PS Thanks.

Yea it just twists on once you've aligned the collars, but I can't recall if there are any retaining bolts - although I seem to recall it having a fixing to the battery +ve jump start bolt. Let me see if I can find a pic on Renntech to jog my memory (I'm at work atm) .. be back in a few mins ...
